Huiszoeking bij de Centrale Bank vandaag

Het team bestrijding ondermijning heeft vandaag, 6 oktober 2016, onder leiding van de Rechter-Commissaris (RC) een huiszoeking uitgevoerd in het gebouw van de Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten in Scharloo. Deze zoeking houdt verband met het lopende onderzoek naar mogelijke belastingfraude gepleegd door de president van de Centrale Bank. De zoeking was noodzakelijk omdat de bank om juridische redenen niet wilde meewerken aan een verzoek om informatie. Die informatie is nu tijdens de zoeking door de bank aan de Rechter-Commissaris verstrekt en door hem in beslag genomen. Er zijn geen aanhoudingen verricht en het onderzoek is nog in volle gang.

Het team bestrijding ondermijning is een eenheid van het recherche samenwerkingsteam (RST) en het Openbaar Ministerie op Curaçao en Sint Maarten die gespecialiseerd is in het bestrijden van ondermijning. Deze aantasting van de rechtstaat vindt met name plaats door strafbare feiten als (belasting)fraude, corruptie en witwassen.

Search today at the Central Bank

The anti-corruption unit (‘team bestrijding ondermijning’) lead by an investigative judge held a search today, October 6th 2016, at the main office of the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten in Curaçao. This search was conducted as part of the investigation into alleged tax evasion by the bank’s president. The search was necessary as the bank was not willing to provide requested information for legal reasons. This information wasprovided by the bank today during the search and seized by the investigative judge. No arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing.

The anti-corruption unit is part of the Kingdom Detectives Cooperation Team RST as well as the Attorney General’s office of Curaçao, St. Maarten, Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius. The team specializes in combatting crime that aims to undermine legitimate society by committing acts such as (tax)fraud, corruption and money-laundering.
