Bonaire in de spotlights met de Forsa PWA Worldcup Freestyle
Kralendijk – Het PWA-Wereldkampioenschap freestyle-windsurfen dat van 9 tot 13 april op Bonaire wordt gehouden belooft een enorm spektakel te worden.
Niet alleen omdat de beste windsurfers ter wereld naar het eiland komen, maar vooral omdat het dankzij de betrokkenheid van de Forsa methode een heel bijzondere editie gaat worden. Vandaar de naam van het evenement: Forsa PWA Worldcup.
Forsa is de methodiek die op Bonaire wordt toepast om jongeren te activeren, zelfvertrouwen en teamgeest te helpen stimuleren en verantwoordelijkheid voor zichzelf en anderen te nemen. Maar bovenal een methode die het WIJ gevoel bij jongeren stimuleert.
Centraal staan uiteraard de wedstrijden. Daarvoor komen 42 topsporters uit 15 verschillende landen naar het eiland om het op te nemen tegen Bonaires eigen toptalenten Taty, Tonky, Amado, Youp, Kiri en Aron. Op Bonaire wordt het nieuwe worldcup seizoen geopend. Daarna trekt de PWA tour de hele wereld over.
Naast de wedstrijden zullen er iedere dag site-events zijn. Elke ochtend worden 100 leerlingen van alle scholen naar Sorobon gebracht om daar mee te doen aan activiteiten. Die activiteiten worden aangeboden door stichting Forsa, Jong Bonaire, MBO sport en de landmacht. Daarnaast helpen de jongeren van SGB MBO media plus een legertje vrijwilligers.
Het evenement is mede mogelijk gemaakt door steun van het ministerie van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport en een groot aantal (lokale) sponsoren.
Het is voor de vierde keer dat Bonaire een PWA-worldcup host, maar niet eerder werd het zo groots aangepakt.
De Professional Windsurf Association (PWA) komt met een extra groot team onder wie een expert op het gebied van online media. Het is de bedoeling om Bonaire gedurende het evenement via een livestream in de spotlights te zetten. Speciaal hiervoor komen er cameramensen uit Nederland over om het lokale mediateam te ondersteunen. Ben Proffitt, een grote naam in de windsurfwereld, zal het commentaar verzorgen.
Speaker op het strand en ‘s avonds bij de Islander is Bonaires eigen Stepherd Cheppie Gustowski die op dit moment een media-opleiding in Nederland volgt. Hij komt voor het evenement terug om onder andere de taak van MC op het strand op zich te nemen.
Om het event een speciale touch en herkenbaarheid te geven heeft Coen van Gennip van Flowcreatego een music-track geproduceerd die is ingezongen door musicalster Chaira Borderslee.
Het organisatiecomité is het ministerie en de sponsoren dankbaar voor hun steun, evenals de vele andere organisaties en vrijwilligers die op welke manier helpen om er SAMEN een prachtig evenement van te maken waarmee Bonaire de wereld laat zien waartoe het in staat is.
Bonaire in the spotlight during the Forsa PWA Worldcup Freestyle
Kralendijk – The PWA World Championship freestyle windsurfing that will be held from April 9th to April 13th in Bonaire promises to be a huge spectacle.
Not only because the best windsurfers in the world will visit the island, but mainly because it is going to be a very special edition thanks to the involvement of the Forsa methodology. They named the event: Forsa PWA World Cup.
Forsa is the methodology used on Bonaire to activate young people, to help boost self-confidence and team spirit and to take responsibility for themselves and others. But above all a method that stimulates the WE feeling among young people.
The main Event will be the windsurf competitions. 42 Top athletes from 15 different countries will come to the island and compete against Bonaire’s own top talents Taty, Tonky, Amado, Youp, Kiri and Aron. This event on Bonaire will open the new season for the world cup. The PWA windsurfers will be traveling all over the world.
In addition to the competitions, there will be other daily events. Every morning 100 students from all schools are brought to Sorobon to participate in activities. These activities are offered by the Forsa Foundation, Jong Bonaire, SGB MBO sport and the army. The students from SGB MBO and lots of volunteers will help make this event awesome.
The event has been made possible with support from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports and a large number of (local) sponsors. It is the fourth time that Bonaire is hosting a PWA World Cup, but it has never been done in such a big way before.

The intention is to put Bonaire in the spotlight during this event through a live stream. A special camera team from the Netherlands are flying in to support the local media team. Ben Proffitt, a big name in the windsurfing world, will be the MC during the matches.
Speaker on the beach and in the evening at the Islander, is Bonaire’s own Stepherd Cheppie Gustowski, who is currently studying Media in the Netherlands. He will be back on island for the event and take on the role of MC on the beach.
To give the event a special touch and extra attention, Coen van Gennip of Flowcreatego, has produced a music track sung by musical star Chaira Borderslee.
