THE SEED HAS BEEN PLANTED; LODGE HARMONY IS HERE TO STAY
We know we have taken a tough job upon ourselves, establishing a Freemasonry Lodge on Bonaire in September 2018. That job is to establish harmony on Bonaire. Our small island society is as diverse as can be imagined. We speak four languages, our population is a mix of all human races and religions, our people have come from more than 100 nations. There is an incredible mix of cultures, customs, religions, ideas and opinions. Can we ever harmonize this?
‘Yes, we can!’, provided we are guided by broad spiritual thinking. Freemasonry does not have an ‘agenda’. We believe that if we can make good men better, this will one way or the other bear fruit in our community. We accept members of all recognized religions, all political backgrounds and all societal ranks, rich and poor, all races and all nationalities. The only thing required is that you put aside your prejudices and make yourself respect, or at least tolerate, opinions and ideas that are different from your own. And you must be willing to fraternize. We do indeed believe in and promote the Brotherhood of Man.
Traditional Freemasonry does not accept women-members, although there exist mixed lodges and also women-only lodges. For the time being we believe that if we can establish harmony and fraternity among men, we are at least laying a good foundation. It is not impossible that in the future we may set up a women-only lodge (known as the ‘Weavers’ in Holland). The point is, we have made a start and what the future brings we cannot foresee.
We practice an initiatic system in the privacy of our own Temple, usually known as a ‘lodge’. We do not teach anything. Instead, we hand our members the tools, symbols and ideas which will help each individual member to find his own way to spirituality and his own understanding of God. And also to find his own contribution to a just society, for which we use the Temple of Solomon as the symbolic archetype. Each Mason tries to turn himself into a perfect cubic stone, fit to be used in the building of Solomon’s Temple, which stands for a society based on Justice, Respect and Unity. For that we need well-informed and strong people who are up to the task of making this a reality. We know this will take time. But the work has to be done. So, if this resonates with you, we suggest you begin now by contacting us and applying for membership.
On 10 December 2019 we invite all interested persons to a public meeting where we will give more information and will answer any questions you may have. Freemasonry is a worldwide fraternity, which can open doors for you in nearly all countries of the world.

The information will be given in English and Dutch. In future we will also start working in Papiamentu and Spanish. We have not reached that point yet, but any Spanish- or Papiamentu-speakers can join us without a problem, provided you can speak English which is our official lodge-language, although at this moment for practical reasons we mostly use Dutch.

LOGE HARMONIE HEEFT WORTEL GESCHOTEN
Wij zijn ons ervan bewust dat we een moeilijke taak op ons namen, toen we in september 2018 Loge Harmonie oprichtten. Die taak is om harmonie te bevorderen op Bonaire. Onze kleine eilandgemeenschap is zo divers als maar mogelijk is. We spreken vier talen, onze bevolking is een mengeling van alle rassen, onze mensen komen uit meer dan 100 landen. Het is een ongelooflijke smeltkroes van culturen, gewoontes, religies, ideeën en meningen. Hoe kan men dit harmoniseren?
‘Yes, we can!’, mits we worden geleid door ruim spiritueel denken. Vrijmetselarij heeft geen ‘agenda’. Wij geloven dat als wij goede mannen beter kunnen maken, dit op een of andere manier zal uitstralen naar de gemeenschap. Wij accepteren als lid mannen van alle erkende religies, alle politieke overtuigingen en alle matschappelijke rangen en standen, arm of rijk, alle rassen en alle nationaliteiten. De enige voorwaarde is dat men al zijn vooroordelen laat varen en dat men alle meningen en ideeën van anderen zal respecteren, of op zijn minst tolereren. En men moet deel willen uitmaken van een broederschap. Want wij geloven inderdaad in de Broederschap van Mensen.
De traditionele Vrijmetselarij neemt geen vrouwen aan als lid, hoewel er wel een gemengde vrijmetselarij bestaat, alsook een vrijmetselarij voor uitsluitend vrouwen. Voorlopig is ons standpunt dat als we erin slagen om harmonie en broederschap onder mannen tot stand te brengen, wij in ieder geval een goed fundament leggen. Het is best mogelijk dat we in de toekomst meehelpen om een loge voor uitsluitend vrouwen op te zetten (die in Nederland de ‘Wevers’ worden genoemd). Het gaat erom dat we een begin hebben gemaakt en wat de toekomst brengt, is nu nog niet te voorzien.
Wij werken met een inwijdingssysteem in de privacy van onze eigen Tempel, doorgaans aangeduid als ‘loge’. We hebben geen ‘leringen’. In plaats daarvan geven we onze leden de werktuigen, symbolen en ideeën die elk individueel lid zal helpen zijn eigen spirituele weg te vinden en zijn eigen Godsbegrip. En ook hoe hij op eigen wijze kan bijdragen aan een rechtvaardige maatschappij, waarvoor wij de Tempel van Salomo gebruiken als archetype. Elke Vrijmetselaar tracht zich te vormen tot een perfecte kubieke steen, die geschikt is om gebruikt te worden bij de bouw van de Tempel van Salomo, die symbool staat voor een maatschappij gebaseerd op Recht, Respect en Eenheid. Om dat te bereiken hebben we goed ingelichte en sterke mensen nodig die dit waar kunnen maken. Wij weten dat dit een proces is dat veel tijd kost. Maar het werk moet gedaan worden. Dus, als dit je aanspreekt, neem dan contact met ons op en vraag hoe men lid kan worden.
Geïnteresseerden zijn welkom op 10 december 2019 bij een openbare informatieavond, waar we het een en ander zullen uitleggen en uw vragen zullen beantwoorden. Vrijmetselarij is een wereldwijde broederschap, die hun deuren voor u zullen openen in bijna alle landen ter wereld.

De informatie zal worden gegeven in het Engels en het Nederlands. In de toekomst zullen we ook gaan werken in het Papiaments en Spaans. Zover zijn we echter nog niet, maar Papiaments- en Spaanstaligen kunnen zeker ook meedoen, mits men Engels kan spreken, hetgeen onze officiële loge-taal is, alhoewel op dit moment om praktische redenen het Nederlands het meest wordt gebruikt.
