BONAIRE WELCOMED 18,606 STAYOVER VISITORS DURING JANUARY 2026
Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) has shared preliminary tourism data for January 2026, revealing that Bonaire received 18,606 stayover visitors. This represents a slight increase of 0.04% compared to January 2025, when 18,598 visitors arrived.

Visitors from the Netherlands formed the largest group, accounting for 48.4% of total arrivals, with 9,004 visitors. US visitors were the second-largest group, accounting for 26.9% of arrivals and 5,000 visitors.

A total of 1,432 (7.7%) visitors from Curaçao visited the island, followed by Canada with 938 (5%) visitors, Germany with 311 (1.7%) visitors, Aruba with 239 (1.3%) visitors, Belgium with 206 (1.1%) visitors, Colombia with 135 (0.7%) visitors, UK with 134 (0.7%) visitors, Switzerland with 113 (0.6%) visitors, and Brazil with 118 (0.6%) visitors.

US visitors mainly traveled with a partner, followed by alone. Most came for vacation (52.4%), diving (35.9%), and visiting friends and family (3.1%). The majority stayed at a hotel (48.7%), a villa (16.2%), an apartment (8.5%), their own property (6.4%), or with a relative (5.8%). US visitors primarily came from Florida, New York, California, Texas, and North Carolina. The age distribution showed that travelers aged 65 and up accounted for 29.6% of visitors, while those aged 55-64 accounted for 27.7%.

Dutch visitors were mainly those traveling with a partner, followed by solo travelers. Most visitors came for vacation (72.1%), visited friends and family (9.6%), and for business (5.3%). Most visitors stayed at a hotel (46.4%), followed by an apartment (16.9%), at a relative’s (10.4%), a villa (7.1%), and their own property (4.5%). Most Dutch visitors came from North Holland, South Holland, Gelderland, North Brabant, and Utrecht, with the 55-64 age group (26.7%) and the 25-34 age group (16.9%) being the largest segments.

BONAIRE FRIENDS INITIATIVE RETURNS IN 2026

TCB has reintroduced the Bonaire Friends initiative, celebrating locals who make a lasting positive impact on visitors through exceptional hospitality, helpfulness, or kindness. Relaunching in January 2026, the program now features monthly winners instead of weekly selections.

Visitors are invited to nominate a “Bonaire Friend” who enhanced their stay. Each month, one nominee will be selected by a TCB committee and rewarded with a TCB goodie bag and a $250 prize.

TCB encourages local businesses and partners to promote the initiative among staff and guests. Promotional materials are available online at the end of the landing page.

TCB APPOINTS SEMII MARTEN AS BONAIRE LOCAL AMBASSADOR FOR 2026

TCB has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Semii Marten, officially appointing her as a Bonaire Local Ambassador for 2026.

A multi-talented singer-songwriter, dancer, and radio host raised on Bonaire, Semii Marten actively promotes the island’s culture through her music, media presence, performances, and community involvement. As Local Ambassador, she will support TCB in authentically showcasing Bonaire’s culture, creativity, and people to both residents and visitors.

Through this partnership, TCB continues its commitment to amplifying local voices and strengthening Bonaire’s image as a culturally rich destination.

NICOLE WITTE TO REPRESENT BONAIRE IN THE GERMAN-SPEAKING MARKET
TCB has appointed Nicole Witte and Witte Tourism to represent Bonaire in the German-speaking (DACH) market as of January 1, 2026.

With extensive experience in tourism marketing and prior work promoting Bonaire at international trade fairs, Nicole Witte brings strong market knowledge and expertise. The collaboration aims to increase awareness of Bonaire, strengthen its positioning as a sustainable premium destination, and support long-term growth in bookings from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

The representation will focus on trade relations and targeted market development across the DACH region.

TCB STRENGTHENS MEDIA RELATIONS AT TRAVMEDIA IMM 2026
TCB represented the island at Travmedia’s International Media Marketplace (IMM) 2026 on January 22 in New York City, strengthening relationships with leading international travel media.

TCB held 24 one-on-one meetings with top outlets including Travel & Leisure, National Geographic, Condé Nast Traveler, Lonely Planet, and Fodor’s Travel, highlighting Bonaire’s 2026 developments, sustainability efforts, and authentic island experiences.

These meetings allowed for in-depth conversations and connections directly with key media partners who are interested in visiting Bonaire to do a cover story on the island.

BONAIRE WAS AT THE NEW YORK TRAVEL & ADVENTURE SHOW
TCB together with Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino and Van der Valk Plaza Resort Bonaire, showcased the island at the New York Travel & Adventure Show on January 24–25, 2026.

The Bonaire booths attracted strong interest from travelers, media, and travel advisors, highlighting the island’s diverse experiences beyond diving, including nature, culture, eco-adventures, and a growing culinary scene. The event also helped strengthen relationships with travel advisors and tour operators in this key market.

Looking ahead, TCB and its on-island partners will participate in the Toronto Outdoor Adventure Show from February 20–22, 2025, supporting WestJet’s Toronto–Bonaire route and aiming to further grow Bonaire’s presence and visibility in the Canadian market.
