  PNP IS TEVREDEN DAT HET KABINET MFK-PISAS III ZIJN LESJE LEERT OVER HET MAKUTU BÁSIKO!

WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO – 20 maart 2026 — Sinds de fractie van de Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) drie weken geleden vernam dat het Makutu Básiko (basismandje) geëlimineerd zou worden zonder dat er een ander plan op tafel lag, is zij naar buiten getreden om de bevolking te informeren en de noodklok te luiden over de ernstige discrepanties rondom deze regeling. Vandaag zijn we verheugd te kunnen constateren dat de druk vanuit onze ‘ogen in de samenleving’, de heer Elvin Gerard, zijn vruchten heeft afgeworpen en dat het Kabinet Pisas III zijn les heeft geleerd na het falen in de uitvoering van deze cruciale regeling.

Tijdens het vragenuur van donderdag 19 maart in de Staten moest Minister van Economische Ontwikkeling terugkomen op woorden die hij eerder in de pers had geuit. Het is betreurenswaardig om te constateren dat de bewindsman er, in plaats van volledige verantwoordelijkheid te nemen, voor koos om traditionele politiek te bedrijven door de schuld in de schoenen van zijn voorgangers te schuiven. Voor de PNP helpt deze benadering onze mensen niet. Onze focus is en blijft het welzijn van de gemeenschap, die dagelijks geconfronteerd wordt met torenhoge prijzen in de toko’s en supermarkten.

Om de situatie rondom de regeling van het Makutu Básiko te verbeteren en ons volk daadwerkelijk te beschermen, blijft de PNP de volgende strategische stappen voorstellen. Hieraan hebben wij gewerkt voor een modernere en effectievere aanpak:

• Introductie van een officieel portaal of een app: Een plek waar de burger de officiële prijzen van het basismandje in real-time kan bekijken, en waar onmiddellijk een klacht kan worden ingediend als een handelaar zich niet aan de vastgestelde prijs houdt.
• Een dynamische lijst: Het mandje moet geen vaste en beperkte lijst zijn. Deze lijst moet periodiek worden geëvalueerd en aangepast om te garanderen dat het voedzame en gezonde producten bevat, afgestemd op de realiteit van de huidige inflatie.
• Koppeling aan lokale landbouw: Verbind het Makutu Básiko met onze lokale landbouw. Creëer stimulansen om op Curaçao geteelde groenten en fruit in het mandje op te nemen. Dit verlaagt de importkosten en stimuleert onze eigen interne economie.
• Wettelijke vrijstelling van belasting: Garandeer in de wet dat de essentiële producten in het mandje volledig worden uitgesloten van elke vorm van Omzetbelasting (OB), zodat de prijs gegarandeerd op het laagst mogelijke niveau blijft.

De PNP blijft staan voor een serieus en voorbereid overheid, waarbij het welzijn en de koopkracht van de ‘yu di Kòrsou’ (burger van Curaçao) altijd op de eerste plaats komen. Wij zullen de uitvoering van dit beleid op de voet blijven volgen.

  PNP IS PLEASED THAT THE MFK-PISAS III CABINET IS LEARNING ITS LESSON REGARDING THE MAKUTU BÁSIKO

WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO – March 20, 2026 — Three weeks ago, upon hearing that the Makutu Básiko (Basic Basket of goods) would be eliminated without an alternative plan, the Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) faction stepped forward to inform the public and sound the alarm regarding the serious discrepancies surrounding the Basic Basket regulations. Today, we are pleased to note that this pressure from our ‘eyes in the community’, Mr. Elvin Gerard, has borne fruit and that the Pisas III Cabinet has learned its lesson from the failure in executing this crucial regulation.

During Parliament’s question hour on Thursday, March 19, Minister of Economic Development had to backtrack on statements he had previously made in the press. It is regrettable to note that, instead of taking full responsibility, the Minister chose to resort to the traditional politics of passing the blame onto his predecessors. For the PNP, this approach does not help our people. Our focus is and will remain the well-being of the community, which must confront sky-high prices in minimarkets and supermarkets every single day.

To improve the situation regarding the Basic Basket regulations and to truly protect our people, the PNP continues to propose the following strategic steps, which we have been developing to ensure a more modern and effective approach:

• Introduction of an official portal or app: A platform where citizens can view the official prices of the basic basket in real-time, and where complaints can be submitted immediately if a merchant does not adhere to the fixed price.
• A dynamic list: The basket should not be a fixed and limited list. It must be evaluated and adjusted periodically to ensure it contains nutritious and healthy products, adapted to the reality of current inflation.
• Link to local agriculture: Tie the Basic Basket to our local agriculture. Create incentives to include vegetables and fruits grown in Curaçao in the basket, which will lower import costs and stimulate our own domestic economy.
• Statutory tax exemption: Guarantee by law that the essential products in the basket remain completely exempt from any impact of the Sales Tax (OB), ensuring the price remains at the absolute lowest possible level.

The PNP continues to stand for serious, prepared governance that puts the well-being and purchasing power of the people of Curaçao first. We will continue to closely monitor the execution of this policy.
