Hi folks, today I will start the alphabetical order of the benefits of eating vegetables, and using herbs, their pros and cons and how we can use some of them as herbal infusion, with one delicious recipe to be included at the end, for those who are willing to try new ideas, maybe this way we can convince readers to eat more veggies considering how healthy and low in fat and calories they are and how they can be reducing the risk of some known chronic diseases and cancer.
It is a white flowering plant that bloom in the summer and contain small seeds cultivated around the world where the weather is warm, it was mainly used long time ago by Pharos of Egypt to treat digestive problems and reduce toothache.
Anise has a sweet taste like licorice and it is very aromatic that’s why it is used in flavoring, food garnishing and in beverages as well, and its extracted oil can be part of soaps, perfumes and some medicines, some Indians chew Anise right after a meal for a fresh breath.
As Herbal beverage, you can make Anise tea by bringing into boil 1 cup of water and adding 1 tsp of Anise seeds , let it sit for 5mn then serve (for 1 person), it makes digestion easier after a heavy meal and reduces bloating as well as stress and insomnia and maintains a steady blood pressure, it helps in case of cold or respiratory infection and it may enhance the supply of mother’s milk , in the old days they used to make sure a new mother is given Anise so her milk can come in quicker and her supply be better , you can also give it to babies when they suffer from gas or stomach pain or hiccups, it is loaded with vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, B,C, iron, magnesium ,zinc and copper, this tea doesn’t need sugar in it but in case you are a sugar addict try to add honey instead ,I prefer it over coffee and black tea afternoon cause it doesn’t contain caffeine , Anise might cause allergic reactions in some people who are allergic to other plants that are similar like asparagus, caraway, celery, coriander, cumin, dill, and fennel , it is wise to always control your food and herbs intake.
The funny part about growing Anise in your garden is that the flower is rich with nectar which attract bees, so you have to be very careful.
And for a flavored dish , let’s try this delicious aromatic basmati rice with Anise, my way, you need 1 cup basmati rice ,you soak it in warm water for 15 mn then you drain it (Soaking rice will allow it to absorb some of its water at room temperature, which is relatively good to preserve some of its flavor, and of course it takes less time to be cooked),in a pan you measure 1 tbsp. of ghee (I prefer organic ghee or butter but for those who can’t have it you can put instead some organic coconut oil or olive oil, I don’t use the regular oils like canola oil or corn oil it just kill the flavor ),then add a tsp of Anise seeds fry them till they become brown then add the rice , mix them all and add 1 cup and ¼ of water with a bit of salt , bring it to boil then cover it up on a very low heat for about 15 mn or a bit more till you taste it and see that its done , you can have it aside of any chicken or meat main dish.
Always remember your food choice affect your general health on daily basis today and tomorrow, so keep your eating habits healthy!
