POLICE PRESS RELEASE

Man stabs woman

On Thursday April 26th at approximately 08.40 a.m. police patrols, paramedics, detectives and forensic investigators were sent to a home in Ginger road in Cay hill where the Emergency Dispatch received a call of a stabbing. On the scene the investigating officers encountered the female victim who had several stab wounds to her upper body from which she was bleeding quite profusely. The victim was immediately treated by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The scene was immediately cordoned off by police in order for the crime scene investigators to collect evidence and detectives to speak to witnesses.  The investigators learnt that during a heated argument between the victim and the suspect she was stabbed several times by him. The suspect after committing this act fled the scene and has not yet turned himself in or been arrested. After treatment at the hospital the victim was released. The investigation is ongoing. As more details regarding this investigation become available the media will be informed.

Family home totally destroyed by fire.

On Thursday April 26th at approximately 11.25 a.m. police patrols, Fire Department and Detectives were sent to the home of the Serrant family located on A. Th. Illidge road where a fire was reported. On the scene the investigating officers diverted traffic in order for the Fire department to put the blaze out. The officers also learnt that a young boy living at the home was in one of the bedrooms working on a school project which required the use of matches. He also stated that the a mattress accidental caught fire. The fire was put out by the fire department however everything in the home was destroyed. No one was injured during this fire.

Road closures and traffic diversions

In connection with the Jouvert Jump-up for 2018 which is scheduled for Friday April 27th at 04.00 a.m. the police are making the following announcement. The lining-up of the bands, Dj’s and other vehicles taken part the Jouvert will line up on the ring round. In order for this to take place as safe as possible the following traffic measures will be taken place. As of 02.00 a.m. the Walter Nisbet road will be closed between Tamarinde steeg (Yellow Building alley) and the Salt Pickers round about. No motor vehicle traffic will be allowed in either direction. All streets and alleys connected to that stretch of road will also be closed. After the last vehicle in the jump-up has passed the Salt Pickers round about the street will be reopened to all traffic.

All drivers should take keen note of this information to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience. Drivers should also use alternative routes to get to and from their destination.
