POLICE PRESS RELEASE

Man seriously injured in “Hit and Run” accident

The Police Traffic Department is presently investigating a”hit and run” accident which took place on Saturday April 28th at approximately 03.05 a.m. on the Welfare road in the vicinity of “Toppers” leaving one male victim very seriously injured.

On the scene the investigating officers found the victim lying in pool of blood in front of ”Toppers” and was clear to see that he suffered severe head trauma. The victim is identified with initials R.L.B. born in Barbados and a resident of Tortola. According the information the victim at the time of the accident was crossing the street and was struck by a private vehicle with French license plate. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and continued driving in the direction of Simpson Bay.

Paramedics treated the victim on the scene and transported him immediately to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further medical attention. The Police Department later learnt that the victim would have to be flown to the U.S. because of his serious medical condition.

As this investigation continues the Police Department is asking those persons that were in the vicinity at the time of the accident and saw what happened to get in contact with traffic department as soon as possible by calling 54-22222 extension 241 or the Emergency Dispatch by dialing 911 . The information you share can help in solving the investigation as soon as possible.

Suspect(s) shoot at family home

On Saturday April 28th at approximately 05.00 a.m. police patrols and detectives were directed to the home of the Ottley family located at Upper princes Quarter where shots were reported fired. On the scene the investigating officers found evidence that indeed indicates that shots were fired at the house and the vehicles on the premises. This evidence was collected by the Forensic Department for further investigation. No one was injured during this incident and no suspects have been identified or arrested. The reason for this hooting is also unknown. The Police Department is asking anyone who has information that can help solve this case to immediately get in contact with department by calling 54-22222 ext 213, 214, the Emergency Dispatch 911 or the Police anonymous Tip line #9300.
