INVITATION | Artist Talk Chant van Lieshout | New Exhibition INTROSPECTIVES

Dear Friends of The Curaçao Museum,

Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) and The Curaçao Museum invite you for an inspiring Artist Talk with the current Artist in Residence at IBB, Chant van Lieshout.
On Thursday, November 7, 2024
From 19:00 until 21:00
The Curaçao Museum

Chant, just like IBB, was also a participant in the celebrated Bosch Parade (in Den Bosch) this past summer with ‘Isteria Archipelago’ together with the Moss Social Club.

About Isteria Archipelago
Isteria Archipelago is drawn forth by organisms prone to pollution; they are exploited like slaves to their own destruction and demise. Two deformed fish roam the island, attempting to harness the destruction and turn it into something new, something beautiful, something hopeful. Although the pollution takes on terrible forms, every creature tries to take care of all the little worlds in which they find themselves and together they build a better universe.

During her residency on Curaçao, Chant is actively collaborating with IBB students, engaging them in creative exploration and hands-on projects. Her work, including “Sunflower, Mosquito, Knot, Coot”, reflects a fascination with the overlooked – from insects to found objects – and channels vulnerability, playfulness, and compassion into powerful sculptures and installations.

Take part in this unique evening and witness Chant’s artistic journey and her collaboration with the next generation of Curaçao’s artists.
On this evening you will also have a chance to view the exhibition Introspectives which also forms part of the international collaborative project ‘Your Contemporary Demons’ developed by six organizations from the Netherlands and Curaçao; Bosch Parade, Willem Twee Kunstruimte, Instituto Buena Bista Curaçao (IBB), The Curaçao Museum, Connections and St. Joost School of Art & Design.

Isteria Archipelago on the Dommel River during the Bosch Parade this summer in Den Bosch
Introspectives forms part of the international collaborative project Jouw Hedendaagse Demonen |Your Contemporary Demons developed by six organizations from the Netherlands and Curaçao; Bosch Parade, Willem Twee Kunstruimte, Instituto Buena Bista Curaçao, The Curaçao Museum, Connections and St. Joost School of Art & Design.
This very interesting exhibition was first on show at the Willem Twee Kunstruimte in Den Bosch from June 8, 2024, until July 21, 2024, after which it traveled by sea to Curaçao to be exhibited at The Curaçao Museum from October 30, 2024, until January 30, 2025

About Bosch Parade
Bosch Parade organizes a biennial Art manifestation on the Dommel River in the center of the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) in the Netherlands.  It’s a spectacular, theatrical and musical arts manifestation on the water with Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516) as a source of inspiration.  His world-famous works of art are full of symbolism, fantasies, absurdities, little goblins, and demons that continue to inspire. This year was the tenth-anniversary edition of the Bosch Parade which took place from June 20, 2024 to June 23, 2024 in Den Bosch. The theme for 2024 was ‘Contemporary demons’ inspired by the artwork The Garden of Earthly Delights, a triptych oil painting, painted between 1490 and 1510 on oak panels by Hieronymus Bosch.

Central to this project is the exploration of connection, collaboration, and personal demons. What happens when you have multiple artists and art students develop new artworks together? How do you think, create, negotiate, or compromise with each other? What demons torment or help us?
After a period of collaboration and a collective creative process, which began on Curaçao, where the art students under the expert guidance of the ‘Kunstbroeders’ Tirzo Martha and David Bade, together with Elvis Chen and Travis Geertruida worked incessantly on their ideas for the project at Instituto Buena Bista. The results of their creative process were presented during the kick–off at The Curaçao Museum, last year in December, after which they continued with the further development of the designs in the Netherlands at the Bosch Parade.
With the exhibition Introspectivesthe green light for the next phase in the trajectory was given to say goodbye: the artists reassembled themselves, the demons, and the artworks. They re-shifted their focus inwards and explored what they experienced during this project and in an empty space at Willem Twee Kunstruimte, new and personal introspections emerged.
The results of this process moved from the Willem Twee Kunstruimte in Den Bosch to The Curaçao Museum in the final phase of Introspectives and show the works of:
David Bade, Tirzo Martha, Elvis Kiem Loon Chen, Travis Geertruida, Steph de Araujo, Nora Boekholt, Jane Castillo, Estebe Duin Rodrigues, Zoë Kouijzer, Keithly – Son Luciana, Omar Martha, Fabio Serra and Sofie de Vroed.  Curated by Linda Köke from Willem Twee Kunstruimte, Joyce Pennekamp from Connections and Judaline Cyntje from The Curaçao Museum.
