Parliament of Sint Maarten

Delegation participates in the 39th Parlatino General Assembly and supports Temporary Committee on the Caribbean
On March 26, 2026, the 39th General Assembly of the Parliament of Latin America and the Caribbean (Parlatino) commenced at its Permanent Headquarters in Panama City, Panama.
The delegation of the Parliament of Sint Maarten in attendance comprises the Hon. President of Parliament, Mrs. Sarah A. Wescot-Williams, along with Hon. Members of Parliament, Mr. Francisco A. Lacroes, Mrs. Veronica C. Jansen-Webster, Mr. Christopher L. Wever, Mr. Egbert J. Doran, Mr. Lyndon C.J. Lewis, Mr. Viren V. Kotai, Mr. Darryl T.J. York, and Mr. Dimar C. Labega.
Prior to the General Assembly, Members attended and participated in Committee meetings held on March 24 and 25, 2026. These included sessions of the Committee on Political, Municipal, and Integration Affairs; the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries; the Committee on Human Rights, Justice, and Prison Policies; and the Committee on Economic Affairs, Social Debt, and Regional Development.
In addition, the President of Parliament attended and participated in the Board of Directors meeting held on March 25, 2026. During this meeting, the Board approved a proposal to establish a Temporary Committee for the Caribbean. This initiative stems from a prior meeting held in September 2025 with the Presidents of the Parliaments of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten. The Temporary Committee is scheduled to convene for the first time from May 20–21, 2026, in Willemstad, Curaçao. The Committee will focus on analyzing priority issues affecting the Caribbean, formulating recommendations to strengthen Parlatino’s agenda, and exploring the potential inclusion of delegates from Caribbean parliaments that are not yet members of Parlatino in its sessions.
The General Assembly featured several opening speeches, as well as presentations from representatives of CAF (Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean) and CEPAL (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean). A management report was also presented by the President of Parlatino, Diputado Rolando González Patricio.
Heads of delegations and specially invited guests were given the opportunity to deliver interventions. During her address, the Hon. President of Parliament, Mrs. Wescot-Williams, reflected on the role of Parlatino and emphasized the importance of the newly established Temporary Committee for Caribbean affairs.
