Statia Government “Remembering Their Courage, Embracing Our Freedom”

Many gathered at the historic Fort Oranje for a solemn Memorial Day ceremony to honour those who gave their lives in the name of peace and liberty.

The ceremony was a moving tribute featuring reflections from Her Excellency Governor Alida Francis. The proceedings were marked by a respectful two-minute silence, providing a moment for the community to reflect on the immense sacrifices made by the fallen.

The atmosphere was further enriched by a soulful musical presentation of “I Want Jesus to Walk with Me” by Sinfonia and spiritual invocations by local clergy.

Wreaths were laid at the Monumental Plaque to ensure that the courage of the past is never forgotten and that the freedom enjoyed today remains cherished by all. The ceremony concluded with a collective chorus of “His Truth Is Marching On” and a closing prayer, uniting those in attendance in a shared spirit of remembrance.
