From 21 to 22 May, the Statia Government welcomed representatives from the Dutch ministries of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W) and Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) to discuss Phase 2 of the Nature and Environment Policy Plan (NEPP) for the 2026–2030 period.
Meetings with Governor Francis, Commissioner Leerdam and local stakeholders focused on environmental priorities for Statia, including roaming animal control, coral reef restoration, invasive species management, climate adaptation, wastewater treatment and waste management.
The discussions also addressed future funding and cooperation between the Dutch Government and the BES islands. The next step is the development of a joint programme and funding framework through 2030 to support the continued protection and enhancement of Statia’s natural environment.
