Man arrested for theft and fraud
On Thursday September 19th 2019, the patrol of Philipsburg was directed to Oyster Pond where they arrested a man with the initials D.M. There was an arrest warrant previously issued by the Prosecutor’s office for the suspect’s arrest in an ongoing investigation for theft and fraud. When the patrol arrived at his home in the Oyster-Pond area, they spotted the suspect and immediately detained him. The Detective Department is busy with the investigation.
Explosion at Sister Modesta road, Simpsonbay
On Friday September 20th 2019 about 14.00, the Police Dispatch received a call concerning an explosion on Sister Modesta Road in the Simpson Bay area, near the White Swan Restaurant. The Simpson Bay Patrol, Ambulance and the Fire Department were directed to the location and at the scene, they encountered two men with severe burns to their hands, face and torso.
After a brief investigation at the scene, the police discovered that the two men who were injured, works for a local cooking gas company and accidentally injured themselves while transferring cooking gas to one of the businesses in the area. The two victims were treated at the scene, by the Ambulance personnel and later transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. A minor who was in the area, also suffered from gas inhalation and she was treated by the paramedics on location. An investigation into the cause of this accident is still ongoing.
