Militair overleden na snorkelen bij Playa Porto Marie op Curaçao
Op zaterdag 24 februari 2024 is een Nederlandse militair van de Compagnie in de West overleden nadat hij ging snorkelen bij Playa Porto Marie op Curaçao.
De Kustwacht Caribisch gebied heeft na de melding van de vermiste militair een zoekactie opgezet naar de vermiste militair. De kustwachthelikopter en het maritieme patrouillevliegtuig de DASH zijn na de melding direct een zoektocht begonnen. Het vaartuig Metal Shark is ook langs de kustlijn ingezet, CITRO heeft ondersteund en marineduikers zijn onder water gaan zoeken. Ook de directe collega’s van de CIDW hebben met man en macht gezocht. Na enkele uren is het lichaam van de overleden militair gevonden. De familie en militaire collega’s zijn geïnformeerd. Zij worden bijgestaan door medewerkers van bedrijfsmaatschappelijk werk en geestelijke verzorging. De oorzaak van het overlijden wordt nader onderzocht.
Onze gedachten gaan uit naar de familie en nabestaanden van de militair.
Soldier loses his life after snorkeling at Porto Marie Beach, Curaçao
On Saturday, February 24, 2024, a Dutch Soldier from the ‘Compagnie in de West’ loses his life after he went snorkeling at Porto Marie Beach, Curaçao.
After the notification of the lost soldier, Coastguard Caribbean Region started a search for this soldier. The Coast Guard helicopter as well as the Maritime patrol plane, the DASH, also started a search after the notification. The Metal Shark boat was even so deployed along the Coast Line with the help of CITRO and Marine Divers also started a search under water. Direct colleagues from the CIDW were also searching with all their might. After a few hours the lifeless body of the soldier was found.
Family and colleagues from the Military were informed. They are assisted by social workers and are receiving spiritual and mental care. The cause of death is being further investigated.
