Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM)Urges Garage Owners to Remove Vehicles from Public Roads

The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment, and Infrastructure (VROMI), is urging all garage owners on the island to cease the use of public roads for business operations or vehicle storage.

Authorities have observed an increasing trend where garages are utilizing public roads to conduct repairs or store vehicles—both repairable and non-repairable—causing obstructions and safety hazards. This practice not only disrupts traffic flow but also poses risks to pedestrians and other road users.

To address this issue, Community Police Officers (CPOs) will begin approaching garage owners in various districts with a strict timeline for compliance. All vehicles currently occupying public roads must be relocated to designated garage premises within the given timeframe.

Furthermore, garages operating illegally or conducting business on public roads will be required to cease operations immediately.

While the police and VROMI are seeking voluntary cooperation at this time, stricter enforcement actions will follow if non-compliance persists. Garage owners are strongly advised to take the necessary steps to avoid future penalties and potential business disruptions.

The Sint Maarten Police Force and VROMI appreciate the cooperation of all garage owners in maintaining a safe and organized environment for the community.
