Waarschuwing: Oplichters doen zich voor als notarissen op de eilanden

De Antilliaanse Arubaanse Notariële Vereniging (AANV) waarschuwt het publiek voor
recente gevallen van oplichting waarbij personen zich via e-mail voordoen als notarissen op
één van de eilanden. Hierbij worden slachtoffers benaderd vanuit gratis e-mailadressen zoals
Gmail, en gevraagd om bedragen over te maken naar buitenlandse bankrekeningen.
De AANV heeft vernomen dat in meerdere dossiers kopers van onroerende zaken (in
bepaalde gevallen reeds vóór officiële tussenkomst van het notariskantoor) zijn benaderd
door oplichters die zich valselijk presenteren als de behandelend notaris.
Hoewel er geen aanwijzingen zijn voor datalekken bij notariskantoren, wordt dit type fraude
zeer serieus genomen. De AANV is in overleg met betrokken autoriteiten en doet een
dringend beroep op het publiek om waakzaam te zijn.
Let op:
Twijfelt u over de juistheid van een ontvangen e-mail of betaalinstructies? Neem altijd
telefonisch contact op met het notariskantoor vóórdat u een betaling uitvoert.
De AANV doet een oproep aan slachtoffers of personen die soortgelijke pogingen tot
oplichting hebben ervaren, om zich te melden bij het betreffende notariskantoor én om
aangifte te doen bij de politie.
Daarnaast roept de AANV ook andere dienstverleners die op enigerlei wijze onderdeel
vormen van een vastgoedtransactie op om alert te zijn op verdachte communicatie of
handelingen. Alleen gezamenlijk kunnen we dit soort fraude effectief signaleren en
tegengaan.

The Antillean Aruban Notarial Association (AANV) warns the public about recent cases of
fraud in which individuals pose as notaries on one of the islands via email. Victims are
contacted through free email services such as Gmail and are instructed to transfer funds to
foreign bank accounts.
The AANV has learned that in several property transaction cases, buyers have been
approached by fraudsters impersonating the notary involved in some instances even before
any official contact with the notary office had occurred.
Although there are currently no indications of data breaches at notary offices, this type of
fraud is being taken very seriously. The AANV is in communication with the relevant
authorities and strongly urges the public to remain alert.

Always contact the notary office by phone before making any payment.
The AANV calls on victims or anyone who has encountered similar attempts at fraud to
report the matter to the relevant notary office and to file a report with the police.
The AANV also calls on other service providers involved in any part of a real estate
transaction to remain alert to suspicious communications or activities. Only through joint
vigilance can we effectively detect and combat this type of fraud.
