The course is for anyone who wants to know more about what the Public Entity of Saba does, who makes decisions within the Public Entity and how those decisions are reached, how the Island Council works, and how you, as a citizen, can influence the Public Entity’s policies.

The program is offered through funding from the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, as part of its continued support for strengthening local democracy on the BES islands.

Program Outline

The course consists of 4 sessions, and will be held on:

• Tuesday May 19 at the Queen Wilhelmina Library from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.: Introduction and getting acquainted – How is the Netherlands governed and what is the place of the public entity within it?
• Wednesday May 20 at the Eugenius Center from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.: The public entity – How does the public entity work, and how are decisions made? How can citizens play a role in decision-making?
• Thursday May 21 at the Eugenius Center from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m: The Island Council– Tasks and roles of the island council– The instruments of a council member and Basic knowledge of municipal finances
• Thursday May 28 at the Government Administration Building from 2:00 p.m. : attending an Island Council meeting

We encourage residents to attend these free, interactive, and informative sessions to gain a better understanding of how our island is governed.
