On Monday, May 4, 2026, the Hon. President of Parliament, Mrs. Sarah A. Wescot-Williams, together with Faction Leaders in Parliament and/or their representatives, attended and participated in the commemoration ceremony for National Remembrance Day held at Captain Hodge Wharf in Philipsburg. This year’s observance was held under the theme, “Learning to Understand History.”
On this day, throughout the Kingdom of the Netherlands, tribute is paid to the victims of the Second World War and to all those who sacrificed their lives in the fight for freedom and during peacekeeping operations.
During the ceremony, the President of Parliament laid a wreath at the monument on behalf of the Parliament of Sint Maarten. Hon. Members of Parliament Ms. Sjamira D.M. Roseburg, Mr. Francisco A. Lacroes, and Mr. Viren V. Kotai also laid flowers, together with the other invited guests in attendance.
