On Monday 18 May 2026, representatives of the GVP School Board and the Executive Council visited the site of the new secondary school on Statia to inspect the progress of the construction, which is now in its final phase.

Work inside the building is progressing steadily, with classroom ceilings and floors being installed, guard railings in place, and a new wastewater treatment system added on site. Outside, the bus drop-off area, parking spaces, and basketball court are also taking shape. Plans are also being prepared for the access roads from Korthalsweg and Spiegelweg, with local contractors to be invited for the construction work.

Construction is expected to be completed before the end of the year, after which the School Board will begin furnishing the building and preparing for the relocation of staff and students. The School Board and the Executive Council are looking forward to welcoming students into their new school as soon as possible.
