The Hon. Sarah A. Wescot-Williams, President of Parliament, paid a courtesy visit to the Hon. Francis Scarpaleggia, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, while in Ottawa, Canada, participating in the 22nd ParlAmericas Plenary Assembly and the 10th Gathering of the Open Parliament Network.

During the courtesy call the President and the Speaker discussed Sint Maarten’s invitation to join ParlAmericas as an Associate Member, the country’s constitutional status, and the relationship between the Netherlands and Canada. They also exchanged information on Sint Maarten’s recovery following the 2017 hurricane and on climate change and its effects in both countries.
