A successful safety and speed awareness session for fatbike & E-Bike riders on Sint Eustatius

On Monday, the 27th of July, the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) organized a testing afternoon on Sint Eustatius for local youths and parents who own a fatbike or e-bike.

The event took place in front of the police station in Oranjestad, where the police roller test bench (a device that allows officers to safely measure a fatbike’s maximum speed) was installed for the afternoon. Between 5 PM and 7 PM, a great turnout of riders gathered to test their bikes and check their maximum speed.

In total, police officers tested around 25 fatbikes and e-bikes during the session.

In addition to testing the bicycles, officers focused on raising awareness about road safety. They reminded young riders that, under the law, fatbikes and e-bikes must not exceed a maximum speed of 30 km/h. They also encouraged the youths to apply the traffic rules and road safety lessons they learn at school whenever they are on the road.

The young riders responded enthusiastically to the initiative and enjoyed having their bicycles tested on the roller test bench. Overall, the session was both educational and engaging, helping to raise awareness of safe and responsible use of fatbikes and e-bikes and contributing to safer roads on Sint Eustatius
