Het mariniersdetachement op Sint Maarten heeft gisteren geholpen bij het doorzoeken van de Penitentiaire Inrichting Point Blanche op het eiland. Aanleiding hiervoor was een controle op het bezit van verboden goederen. Tijdens de doorzoeking zijn drugs, slag- en steekwapens gevonden.
De militaire bijstand werd verleend op verzoek van de lokale autoriteiten. De mariniers werkten nauw samen met het Korps Politie Sint Maarten.
De actie was gericht op een veilig, ordelijk en effectief verloop. Daarnaast droeg het mariniersdetachement bij aan de veiligheid van zowel medewerkers als gedetineerden.
Het ondersteunen van civiele autoriteiten is één van de 3 hoofdtaken van Defensie in het Caribisch gebied. De samenwerking tussen Defensie en het Korps Politie Sint Maarten draagt bij aan een veilige en stabiele omgeving binnen het Koninkrijk.
Marines provide military assistance during search of Sint Maarten prison
The Marine detachment on Sint Maarten assisted yesterday in searching the Point Blanche Correctional Facility on the island. The operation was prompted by a check for the possession of contraband. Drugs and various weapons—including bladed weapons and impact weapons—were discovered during the search.
The military assistance was provided at the request of local authorities. The Marines worked closely with the Sint Maarten Police Force.
The operation aimed to ensure a safe, orderly, and effective process. In addition, the Marine detachment contributed to the safety of both staff and inmates.
