Met Date My Mate Curaçao krijgt dat op vrijdag 14 augustus een luchtige nieuwe vorm: vrienden presenteren hun single vriend of vriendin aan een zaal vol potentiële nieuwe ontmoetingen.
Het idee is eenvoudig. In drie tot vijf minuten vertelt een vriend, vriendin, broer, zus of collega waarom iemand volgens hen een goede catch is. Dat mag met foto’s of een korte presentatie, maar ook gewoon met een goed verhaal.
Daarmee is Date My Mate vooral een sociaal experiment in offline ontmoeten. In plaats van datingprofielen en algoritmes worden bestaande sociale netwerken ingezet om nieuwe verbindingen te maken.
Dat kan op Curaçao extra interessant zijn. Volgens het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek telde het eiland begin 2025 85.805 vrouwen en 70.310 mannen, oftewel ongeveer 82 mannen per 100 vrouwen. Date My Mate Curaçao vindt plaats op vrijdag 14 augustus bij The Triangle in Otrobanda. De deuren openen om 18.00 uur en het programma start om 19.00 uur. De avond wordt gehost door Mario en wordt aangevuld met DJ, karaoke, drinks en bar bites.

On Friday 14 August, Date My Mate Curaçao gives this a playful new twist: friends take the stage to introduce their single friend to a room full of potential new connections.
The idea is simple. In three to five minutes, a friend, sibling or colleague explains why they think someone is a great catch. They can use photos or a short presentation, or simply tell a good story.
At its heart, Date My Mate is a social experiment in meeting people offline. Instead of dating profiles and algorithms, it uses existing social networks to create new connections.
That may be particularly interesting in Curaçao. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, at the beginning of 2025 the island had 85,805 women and 70,310 men – approximately 82 men for every 100 women. These figures of course say nothing about who is single or who someone may be looking for, but they do illustrate Curaçao’s distinctive population composition.
“On a small island, it can sometimes feel as though you already know everyone, while at the same time there are entire social circles you rarely come into contact with. That is exactly what makes it fun to let friends act as matchmakers,” the organisers say.
The evening is aimed particularly at singles aged 30 and over, but everyone is welcome. Visitors do not need to present anyone: they can simply come along to meet new people, support friends or put their own matchmaking skills to the test.
Date My Mate Curaçao takes place on Friday 14 August at The Triangle in Otrobanda. Doors open at 6 PM and the programme starts at 7 PM. The evening will be hosted by Mario, with a DJ, karaoke, drinks and bar bites.
