Two Men Arrested After Firearm Found During Early-Morning Police Control
In the early morning hours of Monday, September 14, 2026, shortly after 1:00 a.m., police officers conducting controls on the Zagers-Gut Road intercepted a white Kia Seltos that had previously been identified in a video circulating on social media.
The video showed a group of men displaying several firearms on Sint Maarten. During the police control, officers recognized the vehicle and proceeded to stop it near the intersection of Zagers-Gut Road and Coralita Road.
When the vehicle was stopped, the driver exited the vehicle while carrying a firearm. Officers immediately instructed him to place the weapon on the ground, which he did. The firearm was subsequently secured by the police.
The driver, identified by the initials J.J.B., who is known to the police, was immediately arrested. The passenger, identified by the initials C.E.D., was also taken into custody.
Both men were transported to the police station in Philipsburg, where they remain detained for questioning in connection with the firearm possession. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the firearm and the video is ongoing.
KPSM continues to take a firm approach toward the illegal possession and carrying of firearms. Targeted police controls and investigative actions will continue as part of the Police Force’s efforts to remove illegal firearms from our streets and enhance the safety of the Sint Maarten community.
KPSM encourages members of the public who have information concerning illegal firearms or related criminal activity to report this information to the police.
UPDATE: THREE MINORS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH FESTIVAL VILLAGE BREAK-INS
The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) is providing an update regarding the investigation into the break-ins at several booths in the Festival Village on the Suoaliga Road during the early morning hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Following the incident, video footage of the break-in began circulating on social media. After seeing the footage, a parent brought her son to the police station on Sunday, September 13, 2026, as she recognized him as being one of the suspects involved in the incident. The minor was subsequently arrested.
On Monday, September 14, 2026, two additional parents brought their sons to the police station after recognizing their involvement in the break-in. Both minors were arrested and are currently being held at the police station pending further investigation.
All three arrested suspects are minors. KPSM will therefore not disclose any information that could lead to their identification.
The investigation remains ongoing, and KPSM is still actively working to identify and locate a fourth suspect believed to be involved in the break-in.
