POLICE FORCE OF SINT MAARTEN CONDUCTS TARGETED CONTROLS FOLLOWING RECENT ROBBERIES
The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) carried out a targeted control operation during the night of Friday, September 18, into Saturday, September 19, 2026, as part of increased police efforts in response to the recent series of robberies reported in the Cole Bay, Simpson Bay and Cupecoy areas.
The operation commenced about 10.00 pm in the area of the Harold Jack ( A.J.C Brouwers Road) and Indigo Bay roundabout. During the initial controls, 18 scooters were stopped and checked, of which 8 were taken into police for lack of documentation or not adhereing to the tehecnical aspsects . Police patrols and controls were subsequently continued in the areas of Maho, Simpson Bay, Port de Plaisance and Cupecoy.
During the operation, officers received information from colleagues that four men travelling on scooters had been observed near the beginning of Front Street. The men were reportedly wearing jackets and balaclavas. Information received through the police camera surveillance system indicated that the individuals were travelling in the direction of Simpson Bay.
Officers later located the scooters near the Kruythof roundabout. Upon seeing the police, the individuals turned around and entered a dead-end road. One scooter managed to leave the area, while officers continued searching for the remaining individuals.
Three suspects were subsequently located in a nearby wooded area. A scooter believed to belong to one of the suspects was also found in the vicinity. Balaclavas and gloves were found in the immediate area.
The three individuals were unable to present valid identification documents and were arrested for violations related to the LTU and for failing to comply with an official police order.
As part of the continued operation, officers also conducted controls along the Kimsha Strip, where 13 scooters were checked. The documentation of all scooters checked at that location was found to be in order.
In addition, 28 persons were searched as part of the preventive searches conducted during the operation
In total, 27 scooters were checked during the operation, of which 8 were taken into police custody. Twenty-eight persons were subjected to preventive searches, four persons were arrested in connection with narcotics posession .
KPSM will continue to conduct targeted controls and increase its visibility in areas where recent robberies and other criminal activities have been reported.
The Police Force of Sint Maarten reminds the public that these controls are intended to increase safety, deter criminal activity and identify individuals or vehicles that may be connected to criminal offences.

Off-Duty Police Officer Intervenes in Attempted Robbery
The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) is investigating an attempted robbery that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 20, 2026, at approximately 4:00 a.m. in the Welfare Road area, near Market Garden Supermarket.
An off-duty police officer was driving in the area when he noticed two persons riding on a scooter. Both individuals were dressed in dark clothing and had their faces covered. After passing the officer’s vehicle, the scooter made a U-turn and began following the vehicle.
The officer subsequently observed the scooter stop near a man and a woman who were standing along the roadside. The passenger got off the scooter and approached the male victim, who was wearing a gold chain around his neck. The suspect was observed making a movement toward the victim’s neck and appeared to be attempting to take the gold chain. A physical confrontation then began between the suspect and the victim.
Recognizing that a robbery was taking place, the off-duty officer intervened and identified himself as a police officer. The driver of the scooter fled in the direction of Cole Bay, while the officer confronted the second suspect and ordered him to stop.
The suspect complied with the officer’s instructions and was subsequently arrested and brought to the station by the patrol officers who apparead at the loctation. The suspect who is a minor is being held at the police station Phlipsburg pending further investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing, including efforts to identify and locate the second suspect.

Serious Burn Incident at Resort
The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) responded on Sunday morning , September 20, 2026, to a serious workplace incident at a resort facility, where a male employee sustained severe burn injuries.
Upon receiving the report, police officers and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, the injured man was found receiving medical attention and was subsequently transported for further medical treatment.
Preliminary information indicates that the incident occurred during maintenance activities at the resort. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Police officers secured the area and conducted the necessary preliminary checks to ensure the safety of those present. At this time, there are no indications that the incident involved any criminal activity.
The Fire Department of Sint Maarten is responsible for conducting the investigation into the cause and circumstances of the incident. Further information will be provided when available and when it is appropriate to do so. The Police Force of Sint Maarten wishes the injured employee a full and speedy recovery.
