CHATA & MCB host Breakfast Meeting at Santa Barbara Resort AirBnB ‘’Live like a Local’’

CHATA & MCB host Breakfast Meeting at Santa Barbara Resort AirBnB ‘’Live like a Local’’

Willemstad (November 7th, 2016) – After the successful Breakfast Meeting this past May, CHATA hosted its second breakfast meeting of 2016 last Friday at Santa Barbara Resort. The Breakfast meeting featured a presentation by Mr. Shaun Sullivan of AirBnB who elaborated on the foundation and business model of AirBnB.

After a delightful breakfast, sponsored by CHATA member & partner, Maduro & Curiel’s Bank; AirBnB provided insight on how the company operates. The Caribbean is an important and growing market for AirBnB, they are seeing significant growth in key markets including Curacao, Barbados, Aruba, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Currently Curaçao has 600 active hosts where on average they make $4,700 per year charging on average $45 per night. Over 10,000 guests have booked a stay on AirBnB properties in Curaçao over the past year.

Their travelers are more focused on the experience, they want to ‘’live like a local’’ and ‘’belong anywhere’’ which makes the Caribbean an ideal AirBnB market. AirBnB is open to partner up with governments as they have done in for example Amsterdam and New York. There a meetings scheduled with the local authorities in Curaçao to better regulate the alternative accommodations and possibly collect taxes.

The attending members at the MCB Breakfast meeting immersed themselves in an informative and interactive session, after which all parties were enticed to request clarification on matters which were still unclear to them.

CHATA reminisces on yet another successful and informative meeting and extends its gratitude to its member and partner Maduro & Curiel’s Bank for sponsorship of this well attended breakfast meeting at Santa Barbara Resort. In partnership we move forward towards achieving a vibrant and sustainable tourism product.
