Kustwacht tekent SAR LOI met Haïti

De Kustwacht Caribisch Gebied (KWCARIB) heeft op 10 november een Letter of Intention (LOI) getekend met Haïti in het kader van Search and Rescue (SAR). Naast opsporingstaken, zoals drugsbestrijding, heeft KWCARIB ook hulpverlenende taken. Ze voert deze taak uit in een zeer groot Search en Rescue (SAR) gebied gelegen rondom en ten noorden van de ABC-eilanden. Dit SAR gebied grenst aan de SAR gebieden van andere landen zoals, Venezuela, Colombia, Jamaica, Haïti, de Dominicaanse Republiek en de Verenigde Staten. Met veel van die landen zijn reeds verdragen zoals Memoranda of Understandings afgesloten. De Kustwacht is sinds begin dit jaar in onderhandeling met Haïti om ook met hen een soortgelijk verdrag af te sluiten. Hierover is nu overeenstemming bereikt tussen de Kustwacht en de Haïtiaanse SAR organisatie (Office National de L’Aviation Civile). In een Letter of Intention (LOI) zijn o.a. afspraken gemaakt over wederzijdse ondersteuning bij incidenten en rampen op zee en het uitvoeren van gezamenlijke oefeningen. Met Jamaica lopen op dit moment soortgelijke onderhandelingen.

Coastguard signs SAR LOI with Haiti

The Dutch Caribbean Coastguard (DCCG) signed a Letter of Intention (LOI) on November 10 with Haiti concerning search and rescue (SAR). Besides investigative tasks, such as counter-narcotics, DCCG also has an assistance tasks. She performs this task in a large Search and Rescue (SAR) area north of the ABC Islands. This SAR area borders to the SAR areas of other countries such as Venezuela, Colombia, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the United States. With many of these countries there are already treaties such as Memoranda of Understanding Standings. The Coast Guard has been negotiating with Haiti since early this year to sign a similar treaty with them. Now the DCCG and the Haitian SAR organization (Office National de L’Aviation Civile) have come to an agreement.
