Armed robberies
The Special Unit Robbery of the KPSM is presently investigating three separate armed robberies which took place between December 28th 2016 and January 2nd 2017.
The first one took place at Fu Yuan Supermarket on December 28th at approximately 07.00 p.m. The lone suspect armed with a handgun stormed into the establishment and threatened the cashier with his weapon forcing him to open the cash register. The suspect then took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and also took the belonging to the cashier. The suspect fled scene on foot.
The second robbery took place on December 29th 2016 at approximately 08.15 a.m. in the vicinity of Ennia Insurances on the Walter Nisbeth road. According to the victim he was standing outside of the establishment, when he was suddenly approached by two unknown men who verbally threatened him and demanded that he surrendered his handbag which he had with him. The victim handed one of the men the bag however the other suspect struck the victim with an unknown object in his head. As a result of this blow the victim suffered a wound to his head and had to be taken to the Sint Maarten medical Center for treatment. After committing this act the suspects fled the scene.
The third robbery took place on Friday December 30th at approximately 07.50 p.m. at Welcome Supermarket in Cole Bay. Two unknown armed masked men dressed in dark clothing, each with a handgun stormed into the establishment threatened the cashier and forced him to open the cash register at which time the money was stolen. After committing this act the suspect fled on foot.
The Special Unit Robbery is asking anyone who may have information in connection with any of these cases to get in contact with Detective Department at 54-22222 ext. 214-215.
Ill-treatment
Detectives are presently investigating a case of ill-treatment which took place on Saturday December 31st at approximately 06.30 p.m. at a home on Stage Corn road in Beacon Hill. According to the investigating officers, the couple that was involved in this case were having serious trouble which each other. The situation got out of control and became physical. At one point one of the parties got hold of a knife. During the scuffle both parties suffered injuries and had to be treated at the Sint Maarten Medical Center. After treatment both were taken to the police station for further investigating. The knife that was used in this fight was also confiscated.
Summary of traffic accidents
Between the period of December 24th and January 02nd the police traffic department has handled 10 traffic accidents which have been reported. Six of these accidents were without any personal injuries, 4 with minor injuries and one with serious injuries. Five of these accidents were hit and run.
