Persconferentie Driehoek over Adriana Morales de Florencio (zaak Saturnus)
Mede in verband met het circuleren van onjuist nieuws via verschillende (sociale) media, werd op dinsdag 2 mei 2017 door de Driehoek Bonaire, een persconferentie gehouden over de ontwikkelingen in het onderzoek naar de dood van Adriana Morales de Florencio. De zaak heeft de naam Saturnus gekregen.
Hoofd Opsporing, A. Braaf, gaf toelichting over de tijdslijn vanaf het moment dat Adriana Morales de Florencio als vermist werd opgegeven. Op donderdag 20 april kreeg de politiecentrale in de avonduren melding van het cruiseschip Navigator of the Seas dat er een medewerker werd vermist op het moment dat het schip ging vertrekken. Vanaf dat moment begon men met het zoeken naar de vermiste vrouw. Hierbij kan gedacht worden aan de routine check bij vermissingen zoals bij het ziekenhuis en andere instanties waar mensen zich zouden kunnen melden. Ook werd de telefoon van de vermiste vrouw getapt. Gedurende de dagen die volgden kwam steeds meer informatie binnen en op basis hiervan werd de zoektocht uitgebreid en werd ook de FBI in de volgende haven, Miami, ingeschakeld om forensisch onderzoek in de hut van de vermiste vrouw te verrichten en om specifieke mensen te ondervragen.
Op Bonaire begonnen de Kustwacht en Stinapa met de zoektocht op zee en Klein Bonaire om uit te sluiten dat ze problemen op zee zou hebben gehad. De volgende stap was om de ouders in te lichten en werd er contact opgenomen met mensen die op het schip contact hadden met de vermiste vrouw. Vanaf het eerste weekend van haar vermissing werden videobeelden van bedrijven in- en buiten het centrum verzameld die één voor één bekeken moesten worden. Dit neemt heel veel tijd in beslag. Dit heeft ertoe geleid dat vrijdagochtend, 28 april, de vermiste vrouw samen met een man op videobeelden geïdentificeerd kon worden. Nog diezelfde dag werd ook de man geïdentificeerd en werden op last van het Openbaar Ministerie en de Rechtercommissaris drie huiszoekingen verricht in verband met de vermissing van Adriana Morales de Florencio, waarbij een illegaal vuurwapen in beslag werd genomen. Hierbij werd ook een verdachte aangehouden in verband met het overtreden van de vuurwapenwet.
Op zaterdag kwam door opsporingsonderzoek van de politie een kunuku in beeld waarmee de verdachte in verband kon worden gebracht. Aan het eind van de zaterdag middag werd onderzoek verricht op deze kunuku waarbij het levenloze lichaam van een vrouw werd gevonden. De tatoeages op haar lichaam werden herkend als die van Adriana Morales de Florencio. Haar ouders werden meteen ingelicht en de kunuku werd afgesloten voor verder onderzoek. Het heeft 12 uur geduurd voordat het lichaam uit de grond gehaald kon worden doordat dit met uiterste voorzichtigheid moest gebeuren om sporen veilig te stellen.
Op zondag zijn de ouders van Adriana Morales de Florencio op Bonaire aangekomen en zijn ontvangen door KPCN, de Gezaghebber en de Slachtofferhulp die vanaf dat moment 24 uur per dag beschikbaar zijn voor hen. Ook is een zogenaamde familie rechercheur aangesteld om ten allen tijde de link te zijn tussen de politie en de familie.
Volgens Hoofofficier van Justitie H.Hambeukers werd de verdachte in eerste instantie aangehouden voor het overtreden van de Wapenwet, bij een zoeking in zijn woning. Hij is aangehouden en ingesloten. Vervolgens werd het lichaam van de vrouw aangetroffen bij een kunuku waarmee hij in relatie wordt gebracht. Hij wordt nu ook verdacht van moord/doodslag. Er zijn diverse doorzoekingen gedaan in de woning van de verdachte en op de kunuku.
Er heeft op Bonaire gerechtelijke sectie op het gevonden lichaam plaatsgevonden. In het voorlopig rapport hiervan staat dat het slachtoffer door geweld, in het bijzonder door steken of snijden met een mes, om het leven is gekomen. Forensisch onderzoek moet nog officieel bevestigen dat het hier gaat om het lichaam van Adriana Morales de Florencio.
De gezaghebber sprak zijn medeleven uit naar de familie, ook namens de bevolking van Bonaire. ‘Als gezaghebber veroordeel ik deze daden en op geen enkele manier zullen we accepteren dat de naam van Bonaire aangetast wordt door criminaliteit. Ik vraag de bevolking om de politie te informeren indien ze informatie hebben over deze zaak. Wij als Bonaireanen moeten het verschil maken hierin; wij moeten medewerking verlenen en Bonaire helpen om internationaal een goede naam te behouden. De directeur van TCB doet zijn uiterste best om het negatieve effect van deze zaak op onze toerisme te minimaliseren. TCB zal alle reacties op sociale media monitoren en de nodige aandacht geven’.

Triangle Press Conference about Adriana Morales de Florencio (Saturnus case)
In connection with the circulation of false news via various (social) media, on Tuesday May 2nd, 2017 a press conference was held by the Triangle Bonaire on developments in the investigation into the death of Adriana Morales de Florencio. The case has been given the name Saturnus.
Lead Investigator, A. Braaf, gave explanation on the time line from when Adriana Morales de Florencio was reported missing. On Thursday April 20th the Police Station received notification in the evening hours from the cruise ship Navigator of the Seas that an employee was missing at the time that the ship was about to leave. From that moment the search began for the missing woman. This included the routine check for missing persons in places such as the hospital and other instances where persons present themselves. Also, the phone of the missing woman was tapped. During the days that followed more information came in and on the basis thereof the search was extended and the FBI in the next port, Miami, turned to forensic investigations in the cabin of the missing woman and to questioning specific persons.
On Bonaire the Coast Guard and STINAPA started with the search on sea and Klein Bonaire to rule out that she would have had problems at sea. The next step was to inform the parents and to contact persons who had contact with the missing woman on the ship. Starting the first weekend of her disappearance, video images were collected from companies in and outside the city center that had to be viewed one by one. This takes a lot of time. This has resulted in the missing woman being identified Friday, April 28th, in the morning with a man on video footage. The same day the man was also identified and on the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the judge three house searches were executed in connection with the disappearance of Adriana Morales de Florencio, in which an illegal firearm was confiscated. Here also a suspect was arrested in connection with the violations of the Firearms Act.
On Saturday the focus was on a Kunuku (farm) with which the suspect is linked, this thru investigation of the police . At the end of Saturday afternoon a research was carried out at this Kunuku (farm) where the lifeless body of a woman was found. The tattoos on her body were recognized as that of Adriana Morales de Florencio. Her parents were immediately informed and the Kunuku (farm) was closed off for further investigation. It took 12 hours before the body could be extracted from the ground because this had to be done with extreme caution in order to safeguard the investigation.
On Sunday the parents of Adriana Morales de Florencio arrived on Bonaire and were received by The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN), the Island Governor and from that moment on Victim Support was available to them 24 hours per day. Also, a so-called family detective was appointed to at all times be the link between the Police and the family.
According to Chief Public Prosecutor H. H, the suspect was initially held for violating the Firearms Act during a search in his home. He has been detained and locked up. Afterwards the woman’s body was found in a Kunuku (farm) with which he could be linked. He is now also suspected of murder/manslaughter. There were several searches done in the home of the suspect and on the Kunuku (farm).
A judicial section (autopsy) was performed on Bonaire on the discovered body. In the preliminary report it is stated that the victim has died of violence, particularly by stabbing or cutting with a knife. Forensic investigation has yet to officially confirm that this is the body of Adriana Morales de Florencio.
The Island Governor expressed his sympathy to the family, also on behalf of the people of Bonaire. “As Island Governor I condemn these acts and in no way will we accept that the name of Bonaire be affected by crime. I ask the people to inform the police if they have any information regarding this matter. We, as Bonaireans, have to make the difference in this; we must cooperate and help Bonaire to maintain a good name internationally. The Director of Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) is doing its very best to minimize the negative impact of this case on cruise tourism. TCB will monitor all comments on social media and will give this the necessary attention ‘.
