PCN viert belangrijke mijlpaal in hotelontwikkeling Saba
Met het schenken van Pannenbier op 26 juni bij het voormalige Scout’s Place op Saba, heeft Stichting
Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (‘PCN’) geheel volgens de traditie in de bouw, het hoogste punt van dit
belangrijke ontwikkelproject gevierd. Daarbij is de nieuwe naam van het pand, ‘The Scenery Hotel’, met veel
trots onthuld in aanwezigheid van leden van het Openbaar Lichaam Saba, belanghebbenden en andere
genodigden.
De locatie van het resort, omgeven door de adembenemende natuur van Saba en met panoramische
uitzichten op het binnenland, de oceaan en Mount Scenery, bieden een scala aan mogelijkheden om
toekomstige gasten een onvergetelijke èn unieke Saba ervaring te bieden.
Tijdens het feestelijke evenement nam Susanne Thijssen van Thijssen Design alle aanwezige gasten op
speelse wijze mee op een conceptuele reis die uiteindelijk heeft geleid tot de diverse ontwerpen die tijdens de
ceremonie zijn tentoongesteld. Het hotel zal bestaan uit 30 zorgvuldig ontworpen kamers en suites, een
‘infinity’ zwembad, een Scenery lounge en een restaurant. De slogan ‘Elevate Your Senses’ versterkt de
unieke ervaring waarmee Saba haar toekomstige gasten in dit nieuwe hotel zal verwelkomen in een sfeer van
luxe, comfort en rust. De uitstraling van het hele resort zal worden afgewerkt met kleuren en materialen die
passen bij de natuurlijke elementen van Saba. Om de transformatie compleet te maken is er een nieuwe
naam gekozen voor het boetiekhotel: ‘The Scenery Hotel’, geïnspireerd op Mount Scenery, het hoogste punt
van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden.
Malinda Hassel, directeur van het Saba Bureau voor Toerisme, sprak over het belang van deze ontwikkeling:
“‘The Scenery Hotel’ zal straks een prachtige toevoeging worden aan Saba’s toeristische aanbod, waardoor de
aantrekkingskracht van ons eiland op bezoekers van over de hele wereld zal toenemen. Het belang van een
nieuwe, hoogwaardige accommodatie voor Saba is cruciaal voor de verdere merkpositionering van ons
eiland. Recent marktonderzoek heeft aangetoond dat er een significante toename is in de vraag naar
boetiekachtige faciliteiten voor diverse doelgroepen, zoals honeymooners, duikliefhebbers, avonturiers,
wellness- en soloreizigers en 50+ ‘luxe’ wereldreizigers. Als we al deze groepen op Saba kunnen verwelkomen,
zal dat de vraag naar toerisme aanzienlijk vergroten. ‘The Scenery Hotel’ maakt de weg vrij voor een
spannende toekomst en we kijken uit naar de voltooiing van dit geweldige project”.
PCN heeft tijdens de viering alle bouwmedewerkers en vertegenwoordigers van QBR Joint Venture B.V., een
samenwerking tussen een Sabaanse en een Canadese aannemer, in het zonnetje gezet en bedankt voor hun
inzet. ‘The Scenery Hotel’ zal naar verwachting zijn eerste gasten verwelkomen voor medio 2025. Voor de
volgende fase zal PCN de onderhandelingen voortzetten met potentiële exploitanten die een rol ambiëren in
het nieuwe hotel.

PCN celebrates major milestone in Saba hotel development
On the 26th of June Stichting Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (‘PCN’) celebrated ‘Pannenbier’ for the
property formerly known as Scout’s Place. It is a tradition in the construction industry that marks the highest
point of this significant development project on Saba. The new name of the property, ‘The Scenery Hotel’,
was proudly unveiled in the presence of members of Public Entity Saba, stakeholders and other invitees.
The resort’s location, surrounded by Saba’s breathtaking nature and with panoramic views of the inland, the
ocean and Mount Scenery, offers a number of opportunities to provide future guests with an unforgettable
and unique Saba experience.
During the festive event, Susanne Thijssen of Thijssen Design took all the attending guests on a whimsical
tour through the conceptual journey that led to final designs exhibited during the ceremony. The hotel will
consist of 30 carefully designed rooms and suites, an infinity pool, a scenery lounge and a restaurant. The
slogan ‘Elevate Your Senses’ reinforces the unique radiance with which Saba will welcome its future guests at
this new hotel in an atmosphere of luxury, comfort and tranquility. The look and feel of the entire resort will
be finished with colors and materials in keeping with Saba’s natural elements. To complete the
transformation, a new name has been chosen for the boutique hotel: ‘The Scenery Hotel’, inspired by Mount
Scenery, the highest point of the Kingdom of The Netherlands.
Malinda Hassel, Director of the Saba Tourism Bureau, spoke of the importance of this development: “’The
Scenery Hotel’ is set to become a remarkable addition to Saba’s tourism offerings, enhancing our island’s
appeal to visitors from around the world. The importance of a new, high-end accommodation for Saba is
crucial to the further brand positioning of our island. Recent market research has shown a significant increase
in demand for boutique-like facilities catering to a diverse set of target groups such as honeymooners, diving
enthusiasts, adventurers, wellness and solo travelers, and 50+ ‘luxury’ world travelers. Being able to welcome
all these groups to Saba will boost our tourism demand significantly. ‘The Scenery Hotel’ is paving the way for
an exciting future and we look forward to seeing this great project completed”.
During the ceremony, PCN highlighted and thanked all construction staff and representatives of QBR Joint
Venture B.V., a collaboration between Saban and Canadian contractors, for their efforts. ‘The Scenery Hotel’
is expected to welcome its first guests before mid-2025. For the next phase, PCN will continue its negotiations
with prospective operators who aspire to play a role in the new hotel.
