CAP continues to give back with impactful Back-to-School initiatives

Willemstad, August 15, 2024

At Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), our dedication extends beyond operating an airport; we are committed to uplifting our community and investing in its future. We recognize the power of change and the importance of nurturing the next generation.

As part of our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, we are continuing our community outreach with two significant back-to-school projects this August.

On August 15, 2024, we unveiled a new playground at the F.O. Ellis Juliana – Sheila Karel School in Tera Kora. Constructed from sustainable materials provided by Rasta Wood, this vibrant playground reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility. The project was made possible through the tireless efforts of our Maintenance Department and the support of Janssen de Jong Caribbean, one of our valued shareholders, through its subsidiary CWM, ensuring that children now have a safe and enjoyable space.

Additionally, CAP is donating 20 brand-new iPads, complete with covers and a year’s worth of licenses, to the school. We have also provided a new water cooler to ensure students have access to fresh, clean water. To celebrate the new school year, students enjoyed donuts from Duck Donuts, courtesy of our Commercial Department.

Today, the presence of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, Sithree van Heydoorn and the Minister of Justice, Shalten Hato highlights the significance of CAP’s community efforts and their support for our initiatives.

Jonny Andersen, CAP CEO, stated: “We are proud of the progress we’ve made in supporting our community, but our journey doesn’t end here. Our ongoing initiatives reflect our dedication to not just meeting but exceeding our commitment to community welfare. We are determined to build on our achievements, ensuring that our efforts continue to make a substantial and positive impact on the lives of those we serve.”

Good morning, everyone,

Protocol has already been served by Fayna, so with your kind permission, I will proceed with my remarks.

Thank you all for joining us today. On this first day of the new school year, we are proud to introduce one of our back-to-school initiatives that reflects CAP’s ongoing efforts to support and enrich the lives of local children. It’s truly a pleasure to be here as we officially unveil this new playground, along with additional exciting elements that will be announced, and to celebrate the positive impact it will have on the children of the F.O. Ellis Juliana – Sheila Karel School.

At Curaçao Airport Partners, our commitment goes far beyond operating an airport; it’s about uplifting our community and nurturing the next generation. That’s why we continue our journey of giving back to the community, focusing on where we can make a meaningful difference. The presence of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, Sithree van Heydoorn, and the Minister of Justice, Shalten Hato, highlights the significance of CAP’s community efforts and underscores their support for our initiatives.

When we first assessed the school, it became clear that the preschoolers had no playground—a crucial space for them to play, have fun, and develop essential social skills in a secure environment. Recognizing the importance of play for young children, we committed to building a vibrant playground using sustainable materials, staying true to our focus on environmental responsibility.

We also noticed that the school’s water cooler was broken, leaving the children without easy access to fresh drinking water. We quickly took action by purchasing a new cooler and having it installed by our Maintenance team, ensuring that the kids can stay hydrated throughout the day.

And last but not least, CAP is donating 20 brand-new iPads, complete with covers and a year’s worth of licenses, to support the school’s digital learning efforts. With technology advancing at such a rapid pace, it’s crucial that these students have access to the tools they need in today’s digital world. Although the iPads are currently on their way to the island and expected to arrive by the end of August, we’ll have a special handover occasion once they’re here.

Regarding the playground, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to our Maintenance Department, who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. A big thank you also goes to Mr. Kurt Verbist, Managing Director of Janssen de Jong Caribbean, one of our valued shareholders, for recognizing the importance of giving back to our community and contributing to this project through its subsidiary CWM. The collaboration, support, and dedication of our Maintenance Department and CWM together have transformed what was once an empty space into a place full of joy and color.

To not hold you any longer, I would like to conclude my remarks by wishing all the children a successful and joyful year ahead. May you embrace each new learning opportunity with enthusiasm and curiosity. To the teachers, we wish you energy, strength, and wisdom as you guide and inspire your students. Your dedication shapes the future, and we are grateful for your vital role in our community.

Thank you all for being here today and for supporting this important initiative.
