Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) Urges Public Vigilance Following a Series of Brazen Robberies

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten – The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) is alerting the public to a concerning trend of robberies that have occurred across the island over the past few weeks. Several shops, supermarkets, and a jewelry store have been targeted by criminals, resulting in significant loss and fear within the community.

In a particularly alarming incident, two supermarkets were robbed in the early hours of Monday morning, September 9th, 2024. These robberies took place in the Middle Region area and along the A.Th Illidge Road. The suspect, described as a lone individual driving a gold-colored vehicle without a license plate, brazenly committed the robberies before fleeing the scenes in an unknown direction.

Later that day, around 7:00 PM, KPSM received reports of another robbery, this time at a jewelry store in the Maho area. Preliminary investigations indicate that three men, one armed with a firearm and another with a hammer, entered the establishment and proceeded to destroy display cases. The suspects made off with an unknown quantity of jewelry before fleeing in a red car towards the French side of the island.

The Sint Maarten Police Force is actively investigating these incidents and is appealing to anyone with information related to these or any other robberies to come forward. Members of the public are urged to contact KPSM if they have any details that could assist in the apprehension of these criminals.

In light of these events, KPSM is also advising business owners across the island to heighten their security measures. Business establishments are encouraged to ensure that adequate safety protocols are in place to deter criminal activities and protect their assets.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sint Maarten Police Force at +1 721-542-2222 ext. 204 or 205, or anonymously via the tip line at 9300. Your cooperation is vital in maintaining the safety and security of our community.

KPSM remains committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors on the island and will continue to work diligently to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.

Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) Demands Immediate Compliance from Truck Operators and Businesses to Prevent Hazardous Incidents on Public Roads

The Police Force of Sint-Maarten  (KPSM) is issuing a strong warning to truck operators, businesses, and all parties involved in the transportation of materials across the island. This comes in response to a series of incidents involving the breakdown of heavy equipment on public roads, as well as hazardous spills caused by overloaded trucks carrying aggregates. These events have culminated in dangerous situations, including a recent accident where a motorbike rider sustained injury due to spilled materials on the road.

The spillage of oil, aggregates, and other materials on public roadways presents a grave safety hazard, often leading to accidents that cause severe injuries.   is deeply concerned about these risks and is urging all vehicle owners and operators, particularly those responsible for the transportation of heavy equipment and materials, to implement immediate and comprehensive measures to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The following key actions are being requested to ensure the safety of all road users:

Proper Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: It is imperative that all vehicles, including school buses and trucks, undergo regular maintenance to prevent mechanical failures on public roads.

Preparedness for Spills: Operators must establish and maintain a response plan for any accidents, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary tools such as shovels, booms, and sandbags to effectively manage oil or material spills.

Immediate Action on Hazards: In the event of a spill or vehicle breakdown, prompt action must be taken to clear the hazard and minimize risks to other road users.

Assumption of Full Responsibility: Vehicle owners and drivers are fully accountable for securing their loads and ensuring their vehicles are in roadworthy condition at all times.

Failure to adhere to these responsibilities not only disrupts traffic flow but, more critically, endangers the lives of other road users. KPSM emphasizes that non-compliance with these safety measures will result in penalties for those found negligent.

The Sint Maarten Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining road safety and will continue to closely monitor these situations. We call upon all individuals and businesses involved in the transportation of materials to exercise the utmost caution and prioritize the safety and well-being of the community.
