CURAÇAO GEKOZEN ALS GASTHEER VOOR DE ‘17TH INTERNATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT IP CRIME CONFERENCE’

Willemstad – Van maandag 23 tot en met woensdag 25 september 2024 is Curaçao gastheer van de ‘17th International Law Enforcement Intellectual Property Crime Conference.’ Voor het Caribisch gebied is dit prestigieuze internationale evenement een primeur. Het zal meer dan 375 deelnemers van over de hele wereld aantrekken. INTERPOL organiseert deze conferentie in samenwerking met de regering van Curaçao en lokale partners zoals CURINDE en het Bureau voor Intellectuele Eigendom van Curaçao.
Intellectuele eigendomscriminaliteit is een groeiend probleem met verstrekkende economische en sociale gevolgen in alle landen in de wereld. De handel in namaakproducten kan zelfs ernstige gevolgen hebben voor de gezondheid van consumenten en de politieke integriteit van een land.
Internationale sponsors nemen ook deel aan dit evenement. De sterke betrokkenheid van zowel lokale als internationale instanties en bedrijven onderstreept het belang van deze conferentie voor Curaçao en de bredere regio.
De conferentie brengt vooraanstaande wetshandhavingsinstanties, beleidsmakers en juridische experts van over de hele wereld samen. Dit jaar is het thema ‘Reducing the Harm’, met een focus op de uitdagingen en ontwikkelingen rondom de bestrijding van diefstal van intellectueel eigendom. Belangrijke onderwerpen zijn het verbeteren van de samenwerking tussen wetshandhavingsinstanties, het afstemmen van middelen en het optimaal benutten van kansen om criminaliteit rond intellectueel eigendom tegen te gaan. Er is speciale aandacht voor de rol van vrijhandelszones en de veiligheid binnen de toeleveringsketen.
Curaçao mag trots zijn dat het is gekozen als locatie voor dit prestigieuze evenement. Deze erkenning is deels te danken aan onze strategische rol als doorvoerhaven in de mondiale toeleveringsketen en de dynamische rol die onze vrijhandelszone hierin speelt. Daarnaast heeft het vertrouwen dat onze instanties internationaal hebben opgebouwd, bijgedragen aan deze erkenning.De inspanningen van onze vertegenwoordiger bij het secretariaat van INTERPOL speelden ook een sleutelrol in het binnenhalen van de conferentie.
De regering van Curaçao kijkt ernaar uit de delegaties te verwelkomen en verder bij te dragen aan de internationale samenwerking in de strijd tegen deze vorm van criminaliteit.
CURAÇAO CHOSEN TO HOST THE 17TH INTERNATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT IP CRIME
CONFERENCE
From Monday, September 23 to Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Curaçao will host the 17th
International Law Enforcement Intellectual Property Crime Conference. This prestigious international
event, held for the first time in the Caribbean, will attract more than 375 participants from around
the world. INTERPOL is organizing this conference in collaboration with the Government of Curaçao
and local partner CURINDE, as well as the Bureau for Intellectual Property of Curaçao.
Intellectual property crime is a growing problem with far-reaching economic and social
consequences for countries worldwide. The trade in counterfeit products can even have serious
impacts on consumer health and the political integrity of a country.
International sponsors are also participating in the event. The strong involvement of both local and
international agencies and businesses, underscores the importance of this conference for Curaçao
and the broader region.
The conference will bring together leading law enforcement agencies, policymakers and legal
experts from around the world. This year’s theme is ‘Reducing the Harm,’ focusing on the challenges
and developments surrounding the fight against intellectual property crime. Key topics include
improving cooperation between law enforcement agencies, aligning resources, and maximizing
opportunities to combat intellectual property crime. Special attention will be given to the role of
free trade zones and the security of the supply chain.
Curaçao can be proud to have been chosen as the location for this prestigious event. This
recognition is partly due to our strategic role as a transit hub in the global supply chain and the
dynamic role our free trade zone plays in it. Additionally, the trust our local agencies have built
internationally has contributed to this recognition. The efforts by our representative at INTERPOL’s
Secretariat also played a key role in securing the conference.
