Condolences from the Saba Conservation Foundation
We are shocked and heartbroken by last night’s tragic incident at Zion’s Hill that claimed the life of firefighter Sheldon Johnson. Our deepest condolences and unwavering support go to his family, friends, and colleagues at the Saba Fire Department.
Incidents like this are extraordinarily rare on Saba. They do not reflect a change in who we are as an island or the safety of our community. In times of hardship, Saba’s greatest strength has always been our unity, standing together with compassion, respect, and care for one another.
The SCF has worked closely with the Fire Department for many years, especially during hiker rescues, other emergencies and disaster preparedness. We honor Sheldon’s service and dedication, and we stand in solidarity with all first responders who give so much to protect our island.
Please keep Sheldon’s loved ones, and all who are affected, in your thoughts during this difficult time.
The boards and staff of the Saba Conservation Foundation.
