Member of Parliament Mr. Omar E.C. Ottley, during Central Committee Meeting no. 09, presented his draft Initiative National Ordinance amending the National Ordinance on admission and expulsion from Sint Maarten, in connection with the expansion of the category of persons eligible for admission by operation of law.
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Member of Parliament Mr. Omar E.C. Ottley, during Central Committee Meeting no. 09, presented his draft Initiative National Ordinance amending the National Ordinance on admission and expulsion from Sint Maarten, in connection with the expansion of the category of persons eligible for admission by operation of law.
Following the presentation of the draft by the initiative taker, MP Ottley, Members of Parliament were given the opportunity to pose questions regarding the proposed Initiative National Ordinance. After responding to several remarks, the meeting was subsequently adjourned.
The right of initiative – the right to initiate a draft law – is one of the most basic rights of Members of Parliament, in accordance with article 85 of the Constitution of Sint Maarten.
