De realiteit geeft ons gelijk inzake het debacle van ORYX / VIGOR! 

WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO — Tijdens de openbare vergadering van het Parlement op  maandag 9 februari jongstleden, met betrekking tot de zorgwekkende ontwikkelingen  rondom ORYX/VIGOR en Global Oil, heeft de fractie van de Partido Nashonal di Pueblo  (PNP) een standvastige houding aangenomen. Hoewel ook deze vergadering is  geschorst tot eind maart, eist de PNP duidelijkheid en transparantie voor het volk, zeker  gezien het feit dat wat aan het volk van Curaçao is beloofd tot op de dag van vandaag  niet is gerealiseerd. Men ziet het verschil wanneer de PNP niet meer in de regering zit. 

Parlementariër Osepa herinnerde de Regering en het Parlement eraan dat de PNP al  sinds 2021 aan de bel trekt over dit onderwerp en dat de PNP haar kritische houding  hierover kwalijk is genomen: iedereen kan zich het CPR-debacle herinneren. “Vele  malen hebben wij gewaarschuwd, hebben wij gesproken, en vandaag vergaderen wij  opnieuw over een mislukking die voorzien kon worden,” verklaarde Osepa. De bittere  realiteit is dat de beloften van een contract van 30 jaar en miljoeneninvesteringen loze  beloften bleken te zijn. Volgens de PNP-fractie is er gebakken lucht verkocht aan het  volk en zijn werknemers gouden bergen beloofd, vooral in aanloop naar de  verkiezingen, terwijl de Regering nu zelf het contract heeft moeten stopzetten. 

Een cruciaal punt dat de PNP naar voren bracht is de rol van Financiën. Er zijn  indicaties dat de afdeling Financiën aan de bel heeft getrokken dat er zaken misgingen,  maar deze signalen zijn genegeerd. Daarom eist de PNP-fractie dat de Regering de  ‘Risico Matrix’ stuurt die Financiën heeft opgesteld, samen met de rapporten van de  jaarrekeningen. 

“Wij willen weten hoeveel geld RDK/2Bays heeft geïnvesteerd in de zoektocht naar een  operator en hoeveel geld er nu nog in kas is bij 2Bays. Het kan niet zo zijn dat een  kleine groep rijk wordt over de rug van dit proces, terwijl het volk arm blijft,” benadrukte  de fractieleider van de PNP, Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia. 

Tijdens de eerste ronde, die werd geschorst, hebben de PNP-parlementariërs  Larmonie-Cecilia, Osepa, Martina en Cijntje enkele concrete vragen gesteld die de  Minister-President nog moet beantwoorden:

1. Wat is de huidige positie van 2Bays nadat het contract met Vigor is verbroken? 2. Hoeveel werknemers heeft 2Bays op dit moment in dienst? 
2. Is er een realistisch zicht op wanneer Global Oil kan beginnen met opereren en  asfalt produceren? 
3. Wat is de huidige technische staat van onze raffinaderij? 

De PNP betreurt het dat we ons weer op een kruispunt bevinden waarbij de grootste  ‘asset’ van ons land stilstaat, terwijl onze economie ervan afhankelijk is. De fractie  hoopt dat wanneer de vergadering wordt hervat, er eerlijke antwoorden en documenten  op tafel liggen, en geen fantasievolle beloften meer. 

“De geschiedenis zal uitwijzen dat wij de juiste vragen hebben gesteld op het moment  dat anderen ervoor kozen om te zwijgen,” concludeerde de PNP-fractie.

Reality proves us right regarding the ORYX / VIGOR debacle! 

WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO — During the public meeting of Parliament on Monday,  February 9th, regarding the concerning developments surrounding ORYX/VIGOR and  Global Oil, the Faction of the Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) maintained a firm  stance. Although this meeting was also suspended until the end of March, the PNP  demands clarity and transparency for the people, particularly considering that what was  promised to the people of Curaçao has not materialized to this day. One can see the  difference when the PNP is no longer in government. 

Member of Parliament Osepa reminded the Government and Parliament that the PNP  has been sounding the alarm on this topic since 2021 and that the PNP was resented  for its critical position on this: everyone can remember the CPR debacle. “Many times  we warned, we spoke, and today we are meeting again about a failure that could have  

been foreseen,” Osepa declared. The bitter reality is that the promises of a 30-year  contract and millions in investments turned out to be empty promises. According to the  PNP faction, the people were sold hot air and workers were promised the moon and  stars, especially on the eve of elections, while today the Government itself has had to  halt the contract. 

A crucial point brought forward by the PNP is the role of Finance. There are indications  that the Finance department ‘sounded the alarm’ that things were going wrong, but  these signals were ignored. Therefore, the PNP Faction demands that the Government  send the ‘Risk Matrix’ that Finance produced, together with the reports of the annual  accounts. 

“We want to know how much money RDK/2Bays invested in the search for an operator  and how much money remains in 2Bays’ coffers right now. It cannot be that a small  group gets rich on the back of this process, while the people remain poor,” emphasized  the PNP Faction Leader, Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia. 

During the first round, which was suspended, PNP parliamentarians Larmonie-Cecilia,  Osepa, Martina, and Cijntje launched several concrete questions that the Prime Minister  still must answer:

1. What is the current position of 2Bays after the contract with Vigor was broken? 2. How many employees does 2Bays currently have in service? 
2. Is there a realistic view of when Global Oil will be able to start operating and  producing asphalt? 
3. What is the current technical state of our refinery? 

The PNP regrets that we are once again at a crossroads where the largest asset of our  country is at a standstill, while our economy depends on it. The faction hopes that when  the meeting resumes, there will be honest answers and documents on the table, and no  more fantasy promises. 

“History will show that we asked the right questions at the moment when others chose  to remain silent,” the PNP Faction concluded.
