Sint Maarten delegation participates in strategic Tripartite virtual meeting on Kingdom Affairs
On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Members of the Committee of Kingdom Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations (CKAIR) of the Parliament of Sint Maarten participated in a virtual Tripartite Consultation alongside Kingdom Affairs Committee Members from the Parliaments of Aruba and Curaçao.
The two-hour meeting, hosted by the Parliament of Curaçao, focused on several topics of mutual interest. Delegates received an update from the Tripartite-established Petit Comité Dispute Regulation and discussed the advice of the Council of State, as well as the current draft Kingdom Law. The delegations also addressed the legal status of militia in Aruba and Curaçao, including concerns about the need for additional manpower and interest in exploring possible cooperation with Sint Maarten on this matter. The topic of slavery, its legacy, and its ongoing impacts was also discussed, along with the structure of the Tripartite Consultation.
The meeting concluded with delegations agreeing on preliminary agenda points for the next Tripartite Consultation, scheduled for June 4, 2026, in the Netherlands, ahead of their participation in the IPKO Consultations taking place from June 5–8, 2026, also in the Netherlands.
