Parliament participates in Parlatino’s New Special Commission on Caribbean Affairs
On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, a delegation of the Parliament of Sint Maarten consisting of the the Hon. Christopher L. Wever, 1st Vice President of Parliament and the Hon. Member of Parliament Francisco A. Lacroes, Chairman of the Committee for Parlatino Matters (CPM) of Parliament attended and participated in the official inauguration meeting of the Caribbean Special Commission of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) being hosted by the Parliament of Curacao in Willemstad, Curacao.
The Special Commission received presentations from the FAO about the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger, its collaboration with PARLATINO, the current nutrition situation, and the effects of climate change and environmental challenges in the Caribbean.
During the first day, delegates also emphasized the importance of the Special Temporary Commission on Caribbean Affairs and the need to establish a clear roadmap for its work. This includes appointing its leadership and prioritizing key issues and approaches to ensure that efforts lead to concrete and sustainable actions. In preparation for the meeting, the Committee for Parlatino Matters of Sint Maarten also developed a list of priorities that it believes the Special Commission could address in future meetings, with the aim of strengthening the well-being of the people of the Caribbean.
The meeting will continue today May 21, 2026.
