Schools Reopen on Tuesday September 1

Mon Aug 31 2026

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – The Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport (ECYS) hereby informs parents, guardians, students, teachers, school management and staff that all schools will reopen on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and regular school operations may resume.

Schools were closed on Monday, August 31, as a precautionary measure due to the anticipated inclement weather associated with the remnants of Dolly.

The decision to close schools was taken following consultation between the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport and the Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten (MDS), taking into consideration the potential for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, localized flooding and other weather-related hazards.

Following continued monitoring of the situation and based on the latest available information, schools are able to resume operations on Tuesday.

Parents and guardians should therefore prepare for students to return to school according to their regular schedules.

The Ministry of ECYS thanks parents, guardians, students, educators, school boards and the wider community for their understanding and cooperation with the precautionary closure on Monday.

All schools reopen Tuesday, September 1, 2026
