AIRWORTHINESS OF INSELAIR CURAÇAO

Willemstad – The Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) has taken notice of the press release sent by the U.S. Consulate General Curaçao regarding the temporally prohibition of the U.S. consulate personnel from flying on InselAir. This decision is based on an internal review of safety-related considerations of two InselAir flights of December 27th 2016, and January 13th 2017.

CCCA wants to hereby inform that these aircrafts are registered with an economic permit and an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of Aruba. This means that the Aruban Authority is fully responsible for the safety oversight of these planes. Based on these incidents and a few others, the Aruban Authorities decided to ground four (4) Aruban registered aircraft for an audit. This was not done by the CCAA, nor can the CCAA interfere in their oversight actions. The CCAA of course has its own responsibility and does its ramp checks with regards to Aruban registered Insel air aircrafts.

The aircrafts that are registered with an economic and AOC permit from CCAA, namely the three (3) “PJ” registered Fokker 50s in InselAir Curacao’s fleet, are airworthy and available for service. CCAA inspectors continuously verify that the maintenance is performed in accordance with the Curacao Civil Aviation Regulations.

The health of this fleet (3 aircraft) is being closely monitored by the CCAA’s heightened surveillance program whereby two (2) shifts of inspectors are dispatched to the airport daily and check every InselAir flight. Deficiencies (snags) are corrected prior to the next leg. Otherwise the aircraft is grounded.

All the other registered InselAir aircrafts on Curaçao are on the ground as decided by InselAir.
