POLICE PRESS RELEASE
Tourist drowns at Kim Sha Beach
On Wednesday March 20th at approximately 02.35 PM police patrols and paramedics were directed to Kim Sha beach where it was reported that a man had drowned. On the scene the investigating officers encountered paramedics who were busy applying first aid to the mail victim who was lying on his back on the beach. The victim however, was not reacting to the aid that was giving to him. After approximately 15 minutes of the unsuccessful attempt to reanimate the victim the attempt was halted. Dr. Mercuur who arrived on the scene pronounced the death of the victim as a result of drowning. According to a family member of the victim, he entered the water for a swim and at one point was not seen anymore. The victim identified with initials T.L.F and a passenger on board of the Harmony of The Seas was taken to a morgue for further arrangement. There were no signs of foul play in this investigation.
Man shot in Union Farm
On Thursday March 21st at approximately 05.15 AM police patrols and paramedics were directed to Sao Paolo Road in Union Farm where it was reported that a man was lying on the road and was bleeding. On the scene the investigating officers encountered the unknown victim on the crossing of Brazilia and Sao Paolo road. The victim was bleeding from gunshot wounds to the upper extremities of his body and had difficulty breathing. The victim was treated by paramedics on the scene and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The crime scene was immediately cordoned off by the investigating officers to allow forensic specialists to collect evidence and for detectives to speak to potential witnesses. The victim could not give an account to what exactly happened or who the ones are that are responsible for this shooting. The victim has not as yet been positively identified. As Detectives continue to investigate this case, the Police Department is asking anyone that has information in connection with this investigation to get in contact with the Detective Department by calling 54-22222 ext 214-215 or call 911.
Police Municipal, SCDFM, SCDF and Police meet
On Thursday March 21st colleagues from the French Police Municipal represented by the Chief of Police Jacqueline Rodriguez and the assistant chief Raymond Lake, Ricaldo Gumbs representing the French Carnival Foundation, Arlston Lourens representing the SCDF and KPSM represented by Chief Inspector Benjamin Gout and Rudolph Bloeiman as promised held a meeting at the Police head Quarters in connection with the Unity Jump Up which is scheduled to be held on Friday March 22nd. For unforeseen circumstances no representatives of the French gendarmerie could attend the meeting. The Unity Jump-up which is expected to pull a very large crowd will start in Marigot at 08.00 PM sharp and will end in front of the Festival Village on the Soualiga Boulevard. Details such the inspection of the vehicles taking part in the jump-up, public safety, road closures and traffic diversion were some of the main topics that were discussed. The meeting was very informative and fruitful due to the fact that the working relation and cooperation between the police and the carnival foundations from both side of the island has grown and become much stronger.
