On Thursday, February 26, 2026, Members of the Committee of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports Affairs (CECYSA) met with the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports, Ms. Melissa D. Gumbs, accompanied by her support staff.
During the meeting, the Minister delivered a comprehensive presentation addressing two key agenda items: the regulatory frameworks governing medical education on Sint Maarten, and the results of the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) and Early Grade Mathematics Assessment (EGMA).
The discussions highlighted the current status of the education system, with a strong emphasis on accountability, quality assurance, student performance, and the need for targeted interventions to strengthen literacy and numeracy outcomes.
Members of Parliament were given the opportunity to ask questions, during which they raised concerns, sought clarification, and called for concrete follow-up actions.
