PNP: “INTIMIDATIE WEERHOUDT ONS ER NIET VAN OM HET VOLK TE DIENEN; CURAÇAO STAAT ALTIJD OP DE EERSTE PLAATS”
WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO – 19 mei 2026 — De fractie van de Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) neemt met bezorgdheid kennis van, en veroordeelt ten stelligste, de aanvallen, valse informatie en de poging tot intimidatie door Minister Charles Cooper gericht aan ons fractielid, de heer Elvin Gerard. De PNP-fractie staat pal en onwankelbaar achter de heer Gerard in zijn rechtvaardige strijd voor de rechten van onze burgers.
Vandaag voelen we heel duidelijk hoe verhit de sfeer op straat is en we weten dat het volk het wachten beu is. Er heerst een reële crisis bij Domeinbeheer die duizenden Curaçaoënaars treft. Zij wachten al jaren op een antwoord of een stuk grond om aan hun toekomst te kunnen bouwen, terwijl er wordt opgeschept over het uitdelen van bouwvergunningen aan anderen.
Gerard heeft altijd gepleit, en de moed getoond, om de stem van dit volk zowel binnen als buiten het Parlement te laten horen, door transparantie en snelle actie te eisen. Deze pijnlijke realiteit is geen verzinsel; het wordt dagelijks bevestigd door de zware kritiek van burgers op de onacceptabele vertragingen, zoals onlangs ook in de lokale media is gemeld.
In plaats van het probleem bij de wortel aan te pakken, het volk onder ogen te komen en met oplossingen te komen voor de chronische inefficiëntie bij VVRP en Domeinbeheer, kiest MFK ervoor, zoals hun modus operandi lijkt te zijn, om intimidatietactieken te gebruiken en onjuiste informatie te verspreiden in een poging het controlewerk monddood te maken. Dit is iets dat volkomen onacceptabel blijft in onze democratie.
De PNP-fractie laat geen enkele gezagsdrager de aandacht afleiden van zijn beleidsfouten, waarvoor hij juist verandering had beloofd, door degene aan te vallen die gerechtigheid eist voor de landskinderen.
Ons motto als fractie is helder: “Controleren. Voorstellen. Verbeteren.”
De heer Gerard doet precies dat. Het belang van de burger die vooruit wil, moet zegevieren over politieke ego’s en machtsvertoon.
De PNP-fractie speelt geen spelletjes, en wij laten ons door niemand intimideren om te stoppen met het doen van ons werk.
Het doel moet altijd belangrijker blijven dan welke persoonlijke strijd dan ook: namelijk het dienen van de mens.
Wij dringen er bij de Minister van VVRP/FIN op aan om in zijn functie te stoppen met de persoonlijke aanvallen, en zijn energie en tijd te gaan richten op het oplossen van onder andere de rampzalige situatie bij Domeinbeheer. Tot de dag dat elke Curaçaoënaar de eerlijke behandeling krijgt die hem of haar volgens de wet toekomt, zullen Elvin Gerard en de gehele PNP-fractie antwoorden en scherpe controle blijven eisen.
Curaçao en haar bevolking staan op de eerste plaats. Wij blijven dit proces op de voet volgen en zullen niet rusten voordat er toegankelijke en tastbare oplossingen zijn voor het volk.

PNP: “INTIMIDATION WILL NOT STOP US FROM SERVING THE PEOPLE; CURAÇAO ALWAYS COMES FIRST”
WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO – May 19, 2026 — The Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) faction notes with concern and strongly condemns the attacks, false information, and attempts at intimidation by Minister Charles Cooper directed at our faction member, Mr. Elvin Gerard. The PNP faction stands firmly and unwaveringly behind Mr. Gerard in his just fight for the rights of our citizens.
These days, we can clearly feel that tensions are high in the streets, and we know the people are tired of waiting. There is a real crisis at Domeinbeheer (Land Management) affecting thousands of Curaçaoans who have been waiting for years for an answer or a piece of land to build their future, while there is boasting about distributing building permits to others.
Gerard has always advocated and shown the courage to bring the voice of this people both inside and outside of Parliament, demanding transparency and swift action. This painful reality is not a fabrication; it is confirmed daily by the severe criticism from citizens against the unacceptable delays, as was also recently reported in the local media.
Instead of tackling the problem at its root, facing the people, and coming up with solutions for the chronic inefficiency at VVRP and Domeinbeheer, MFK chooses, as seems to be their modus operandi, to use intimidation tactics and spread incorrect information to try and silence the work of parliamentary oversight. This is something that remains completely unacceptable in our democracy.
The PNP faction will not allow any official to divert attention from their management failures, which they promised to change, by attacking the one who demands justice for the children of the soil.
Our motto as a faction is clear: “Monitor. Propose. Improve.”
Mr. Gerard is doing exactly that. The interest of the citizen who wants to progress must prevail over political egos and displays of power.
The PNP faction does not play games, nor will we allow anyone to intimidate us into stopping us from doing our job.
The goal must always remain more important than any personal battle: namely, serving the people.
We urge the Minister of VVRP/FIN to stop the personal attacks in his official capacity and to start focusing his energy and time on fixing, among other things, the disaster at Domeinbeheer. Until the day that every Curaçaoan receives the fair treatment they deserve according to the law, Elvin Gerard and the entire PNP faction will continue to demand answers and exercise strict oversight.
Curaçao and its people come first. We will continue to monitor this process closely and will not rest until there are accessible and tangible solutions for the people.
