Committee for Kingdom Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations (CKAIR) met with the Expert Group on Democratic Deficit to discuss the issue of democratic deficit, the group’s approach, and the progress of its work as mandated by the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultations (IPKO).

On Thursday, June 25, 2026, the Committee for Kingdom Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations (CKAIR) met with the Expert Group on Democratic Deficit to discuss the issue of democratic deficit, the group’s approach, and the progress of its work as mandated by the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultations (IPKO).
The Expert Group consists of Dr. Aubrich Bakhuys (Chairman, Curaçao), Dr. Rachnilda Arduin (Sint Maarten), Prof. Leonard Besselink (the Netherlands), and Mr. Johan Sjiem Fat (Aruba). The group is supported by its Secretary, Ms. Gytha Boerwinkel.
In accordance with the IPKO Agreements List of 2024, the Expert Group has been mandated to submit a report to IPKO within nine months, examining existing and new proposals to reduce the democratic deficit within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the scope and meaning of relevant provisions of the Charter for the Kingdom. The Expert Group aims to deliver their final report in October 2026.
