New Basketball Agreement Opens Opportunities for Statia

New Basketball Agreement Opens Opportunities for Statia

The St. Eustatius Sports Facilities Foundation (SSFF) officially transferred the basketball mandate to the St. Eustatius Basketball Federation (SBF) through the signing of a mandate agreement on Statia. The agreement establishes SBF as the official governing body for basketball on the island, paving the way for a more structured approach to developing the sport and creating new opportunities for local athletes.

With SBF now responsible for overseeing basketball on Statia, the federation will focus on organising competitions, developing young players, providing training opportunities for coaches and referees, supporting local clubs, and helping the sport grow over the long term.

SBF will also work closely with the Nederlandse Basketball Bond (NBB) and Sport.Gouda. Through these partnerships, the federation will have access to technical expertise, training and education for coaches and referees, support in strengthening the organisation, and opportunities to further develop basketball locally and regionally.

The new structure also brings greater opportunities for young basketball players on Statia. A clearer development pathway can provide athletes with more opportunities to participate in regional competitions, take part in talent identification programmes, and potentially pursue athletic scholarships while continuing their education.

Statia Government congratulates SSFF and SBF on this important milestone and looks forward to seeing basketball continue to grow, inspire young people, strengthen the community, and proudly represent Statia throughout the Caribbea
