WILLEMSTAD – October 31, 2024 – On November 7th, the premiere of the new international film Dating My Past, starring Chanelle de Lau, in the lead role, will take place here in Curaçao. Chanelle holds several beauty titles, including 4th Runner-Up at Miss Supranational 2024, First Runner-Up at Miss International 2017, and Miss Universe Curaçao 2016. The fact that Chanelle, as a Curaçao native, stars in an international film is certainly a significant milestone for both Curaçao and her career as a professional artist. In Dating My Past, Chanelle plays the role of Lexie, a relationship therapist reflecting on her own past romantic relationships, each with unique challenges and life lessons. As Lexie navigates her personal journey, she uncovers the true meaning of self-worth, leading her to redefine her understanding of love. The film is directed by Ricky Burchell and inspired by Aaron Jordan Jr.’s book The Power Within, A Woman’s Worth: From Both Sexes.
Chanelle has always felt admiration for the entertainment industry. Although she found acting exciting, it wasn’t her childhood dream as she was quite shy and timid growing up. However, her participation in the world of beauty pageants brought a shift in how she approached her won limitations. Becoming an ambassador for Curaçao in 2016 was a big step in her life that made her realize what she was truly capable of achieving. Chanelle’s acting career began in 2018 when she moved to Los Angeles to pursue modeling and commercial acting. At the North Hollywood acting school, she learned theatre, which along with various commercial acting workshops, helped develop her skills as an actress. Dating My Past marks the third time Chanelle appears in a feature film, and she is excited to take on this lead role. “They say ‘Third time’s the charm.’ And I feel that this role is an important milestone in my career. The film carries a meaningful message about love and self-worth, which I believe will resonate with many people,” Chanelle stated.
Following its premiere here in Curaçao, the film will also premiere in the United States. In Curaçao, the public is invited to watch Dating My Past starting November 8th at The Movies, Otrobanda.
