Statia Government

Last week, the Department of Culture and Events, in collaboration with Marjan de Visser-Leemstra, member of the Anansi working group, hosted Anansi workshops and community sessions across Statia.

The Adventures of Anansi shares Caribbean folktales centred on morals and ethics. The illustrations are the original drawings from 1972, connecting past and present through storytelling and creativity.
Workshops focused on storytelling, whilst also introducing and discussing the educational materials with teachers and after-school facilitators. In addition, books were distributed through the Public Library, the Executive Council, Chapel Piece, and the Auxiliary Home.
This initiative supports the Department’s commitment to strengthening cultural awareness, storytelling traditions, and Caribbean identity among the youth and community of Statia as a whole.
